Hello,

I know this is a UK site, but I couldn’t find an active forum in my region (USA) so I hope it’s OK to post here.

Short history: extremely heavy period with large clotting started in 2007, hirsutism, weight gain despite healthy diet (80 lbs in 12 years), fatigue.

Multiple doctors visits from 2007-2015 with them consistently saying nothing is wrong with me “some women just bleed a lot”, etc. I stopped going to dr out of frustration.

Within the past year I started getting a very wet discharge whenever I was on my period, like I wet myself. Past couple of months I started getting out of breath so I ordered my own lab work which came back as severely anemic. I scheduled an appointment with a naturopathic doctor in hopes of finally being listened to, and she did. Sent me for an ultrasound right away. Unfortunately the results came back abnormal and I am very scared. I’m getting a consult with a gynecologist on the 25th, but have no idea when I’ll be able to get a biopsy done.

my results are:

The endometrial stripe was extremely thick and appears heterogeneous with a cystic focus near the fungus. Maximum thickness 3.1 cm. 4mm nabothian cyst noted incidentally at the endocervix.

Septated mildly complex 2.3 cm cyst in the right ovary

I’ve been unable to find any stories of a lining as thick as mine. I am very nervous and trying to pretend all is well for my kids. Waiting is so hard. I’m happy to have found a place to chat with people that understand.

  • Hello Mom6 A very warm welcome to you. Of course it's fine to post here. Lots of ladies find us whilst they are waiting and worrying about test results. It sounds like you're feeling very anxious just now. It's so hard pretending all is well when it isn't. Gentle hugs coming your way.

Im not a medic so can't comment on what the ultrasound revealed. There can be lots of reasons for a thickened womb lining. Hopefully your gynaecologist will arrange for a hysterisand biopsy to help decide just what's going on. Waiting times and referral procedures are very different here so I can't help with that either. I'd just say that we all know what you're going through and we understand. You do t have to wait alone. If your results are good we will celebrate with you and if they're no we will be here to support you through. Please do let us know how you get on. Thinking of you and sending lots of good wishes x

Thank you very much, Fairycake. I appreciate your words and you taking time out of your day to reply. I have only told my husband at the moment so it's nice to have a place where I can feel less alone.

Sorry to hear of your problems. The ladies on here are very supportive and will help in any way they can, don't feel alone. I honestly can't remember the thickness of my lining other than it was thicker than it should be, I had surgery August 6th last year. You can drive yourself insane using Google and everyone would say stay away from the internet but do make a list of questions to ask your gynaecologist/surgeon.xx

    Hi mom6

I hadn't had a period for almost 2 years and then for a few months at the tail end of last year l started to have a bloody discharge. I googled it and found sites that said even just spotting should be checked out by a Dr when you are post menopausal.

Left it for a few months and then whilst at work pretty much had a period. Got checked out and had an ultrasound,  lining was 2cms. Had biopsies and long story short,  diagnosed with endometrial cancer. Major major shock, my surgeon said that working on the basis 1 in 3 of us will get cancer sometime in our lives, this was one of the better ones to have. Had radical hysterectomy,  ovaries, tubes and cervix removed in Feb this year.

All looking good so far, l know how hard it is but try not to worry, we are all here for one another. I often come onto the forums, it is just comforting to know that when you don't want to worry your family and friends any more than they already are, you can air your concerns to others going through similar journeys.

Best of luck and fingers crossed for you to have a good outcome.

    Chris

    CMD,

I’m actually premenopausal, just turned 40 on Sunday. Still have very regular (albeit heavy) periods and have given birth several times. On top of that I had an ultrasound in late 2013 that was perfect so I am especially worried that it has been able to grow so thick in that amount of time.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience and kind words. I truly appreciate it.

  • Hey Mom6,

The average endometrial lining can get to 14mm in thickness each month. If we say your ultrasound was in October, that gives us 53 months. If each month you only shed 7mm of your lining, then you're left with 7mm. Multiply that by 53 months, and you get 3.71cm. So just a bit thicker than yours is.

As you can see, it's not actually a short amount of time, and just by retaining half of a normal lining each month, you get to where you are pretty easily. So definitely not a concern in regards to the timing of the growth in thickness.

Thank you, Lass. It’s hard to stay calm and think reasonably at the moment. Waiting is definitely the hardest part for me!

  • Hi,

Not sure what some of the terminology means, but wanted to tell you that my daughter had an ovarian cyst in her 20's. She had it removed, and was fine afterwards. Even conceived and carried a child with one ovary!

Not sure what the endocervix is, but I had something they didn't like on my cervix in my 20's. They cauterized it, but that meant I had 2 miscarriages. My consultant told me they don't do that these days, but didn't tell me what they did do! Either way its something they can sort out.

Hoping these are minor issues for you, and nothing more sinister. xxxxx

Thank you NannyAnny, I appreciate the positive thinking. I don’t know all the terminology either. My Dr. said we can just keep an eye on the cyst for now, so I’m hoping that part isn’t additional problems.

My iron level came back 5 with a storage level of 9 and my platelet count came back high at 483. This is unfortunately freaking me out even more. Really wish there weren’t such long waits for drs in my area.
