I really need an honest opinion or two. Five years ago my doctor sent me for an ultrasound scan because I was constantly suffering from anaemia. I was told I had a thickened womb lining and fibroids. I was then sent for a biopsy which came back clear. I was fitted with a mirena coil, which has been a great success for four years. My periods stopped and I felt better than ever. A couple of months ago I started to have some changes. Sex became painful and I had some unusual bleeds and discharge. I rang my gp to request my coil be removed and a new one fitted. I was told there was a three month waiting list and I’d be put on it. For the last six weeks I’ve had a non-stop brown watery discharge with occasional blood clots. It has a really awful smell. I’m also suffering from extreme tiredness and headaches. Also, I feel like I can’t do a full wee. I went to the gp last week and had some swabs done to see if I have an infection. The doctor said she didn’t want me to have another coil until I’ve seen a gynaecologist. The swabs came back clear. The receptionist told me today that the referral for the gynaecologist is not an urgent one. My mum had a hysterectomy for womb cancer. I have made another appointment for tomorrow because I believe I should be seen quickly rather than waiting months. Am I making an unnecessary fuss? I’m 50.
