I've known lots of people in my life who have had cancer, including my lovely Dad who died of lung cancer and I had always shown great sympathy and I believed understanding. I knew nothing, you can't understand until you are the one in the consultants office hearing the words "I'm afraid you have cancer" My whole world seems to have shrunk down to that one word and I know the only people who truly understand are my new cancer brothers and sisters, which is why you ladies on here have suddenly become so very important to me, thank you
Your welcome Bossette, also my deepest condolences for the lose of your Dad to lung cancer.

Dear Bossette I'm so very sorry to hear that your Dad died from lung cancer. Gentle hugs. These things sometimes come back to us with greater force as we go through it ourselves. Feeling that your world has shrunk is something that is familiar to me, but I just want to reassure you that these feelings will pass in time. I'm 3 yrs on from diagnosis and the good days now outnumber the bad. Talking about how you feel helps and we're always here to listen. Sometimes it helps to just focus on one day at a time and to consciously look for the things that bring you joy. The emotional impact of cancer can be just as difficult to deal with as the physical impact (I'd say harder sometimes). Be kind to yourself just as you would be to your best friend if she were going through this. x
Hi Fairycake, you are right about things coming back with greater force, I lost my Dad 21 years ago but didn't really understand all that he was going through at the time, strangely I now feel closer to him than I have in years and feel that he is keeping an eye on me. You are also right about the emotional impact being greater than the physical at times, my daughter and her family are coming to visit us tomorrow (they live several hours away) so I'm concentrating on that. Thank you for all your kind and reassuring words and I'm sending you a big cwtch (that's a Welsh cuddle)
