Pains in the womb

Hello all, I have a couple of further queries regarding my mother's cancer, if I may. She has been diagnosed at Stage 1B endometrial cancer and is waiting for a hysterectomy.

She is in some discomfort from occasional bleeding when she visits the bathroom: we have been told that this is a normal side-effect of the cancer. She's also having to take paracetamol and ibuprofen to ease pains in her womb, which she describes as being similar to period pains.

Could anyone please advise me on the above, is all of this quite normal? Thank you.

  • Hi RobeH,

The period style pains were normal for me, I had stage 1a cancer, I also had pains down my legs, a sore back and aching thighs. I had really bad contracting pains too, painkillers didn't touch it, but was told the contracting pain wasn't typical of womb cancer and was most likely down to my adenomyosis, which is like endometriosis but inside the womb.

I had lots of bleeding and, sorry for too much info, but had big clots too.

I found that a hot water bottle was a great comfort for my pain.

    xx

  • Apart from two days slight bleeding I had no other symptoms, certainly no pain. I hope your Mum’s op is coming up soon

  • I pretty much felt as if I was having a constant period, with heavy bleeding and I also had significant clots. I had symptoms for quite some time before diagnosis because I originally had fibroids and it took a while for my GP and I to realise there was something more going on. I think possibly as long as 12 or 18 months so quite some time.  Despite that I was lucky enough to be graded as 1 and staged as only 1b, so quite extreme symptoms and some delay before treatment don't necessarily mean a high stage diagnosis. Try not to worry too much about what every symptom means or you'll drive yourselves mad, everyone seems to have a slightly different experience and yet the eventual outcome doesn't seem to be particularly related to how the symptoms present.

Hi RobeH. I was stage 3 and after op was grade 2.In my case period type pain. but I have major problems with my spine and hips as well so it's always a bit difficult to say where its coming from. But only for me, I would say yes have experienced the same. I was bleeding quite a lot and found it a relief to have the hysterectomy . I'm 3 months post treatment and all is good 10 months in all. I'm cured. All gone. We can all have different symptoms so try not to worry too much. Easier said than done I know ! But with your love and concern and being by her side she will get through this. My daughter was my rock. Stay strong for your Mum.

Positive thoughts for you and your Mum,
