Another bottom related post (sorry)

Evening,

Sorry to post on here another bottom related question but I’ve no where else to ask and I’m too embarrassed to ask friends.

i finished my radiotherapy 10 days ago and this weekend I have developed a large haemorrhoid as a result of the related diarrhoea I experienced during treatment. Bowels have settled more now but still loose.

Does anyone have any tips to reduce the pain and discomfort I am in with my bottom? I can’t even sit properly today so have been laying lots. I’m seeing my CNS tomorrow but wondered if anyone had any tips I can try in the meantime. I had a sleepless night last night because of it and I fear the same tonight.

Sorry for another bottom question!

  • Hi chellby,

I have developed IBS since my surgery and I find wiping with wet wipe toilet tissue after a bowel movement really eases the discomfort, if you don't have any in you could try wetting toilet tissue, or a quick wash. For haemorrhoids (I developed one after my operation when I was constipated) they gave me anusol suppositories (one doc prescribed me a cheap alternative, I wouldn't recommend the cheap alternative as they leaked!). The anusol cream is good too, I bought some over the counter and applied it with tissue after going to the loo.

I hope that you can get comfortable and sorted soon.

    lots of love

    xxx

  • P.s. I've found a banana a day seems to help firm things up, red onion seems to aggravate things

the nhs have some tips here: https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/piles-haemorrhoids/

  • Thank you Arla. I’ll see what my CNS suggests tomorrow and maybe get a doctors appointment if I can or maybe just speak with my pharmacist. I’m currently trying a cold pack before bed to see if that helps ease things.

For me, the worst bit of all the treatment had been the effect on the bowels, it’s hard to adjust to a new normal when I’ve been so regular with things over the years.

    Thanks for your help xx

    Everything’s just peachy! :)
  • My gp was great, I went in a panic as I thought my bleeding was a reoccurrence, I ended up with a sigmoidoscopy (mini colonoscopy) as it came and went so much. When I went they examined me and prescribed the suppositories, i think they said to go back if things didn't improve after so many days, I was back about three times I think. They told me they can band them if they don't clear up on their own. The suppositories cleared mine then about a week later they would come back, they eventually cleared up though.

Hopefully your CNS will get you sorted, I agree about the bowels, it's so difficult to control, I was scared to go anywhere for a while and. was constantly worrying where the nearest loo is. You can order a Macmillan toilet card at https://be.macmillan.org.uk/be/p-24952-macmillan-toilet-card.aspx it basically lets you flash your card for access to toilets when you are out and about. You can also order a radar key to let you access disabled toilets when you are out and about for a few pounds from amazon.

Mine seem to be mostly settled for a while now, crossing my fingers,

  • Thanks Arla. My CNS examined me today and agreed, I have a rather large and angry looking haemorrhoid. Advised to try anusol first but to see my doc if not settled in a few days or even visit a&e if it starts to bleed.

I’ve got a toilet card and will order a radar key for just in case emergencies, but hopefully things will settle soon enough. I’ve been putting off going out recently unless I know there will be decent facilities, so if if I do go out hopefully I’ll be okay.

thanks for your help, I hope things stay settled for you too

    xx

    Everything’s just peachy! :)
  • Hey chellby,

Im glad your CNS managed to see you today and that you have a treatment plan, the anusol should hopefully make you a lot more comfortable, that and the toilet wet wipes were a game changer for me.

Heres hoping it clears up soon.

Hi ! Oh the dreaded haemorrhoids have raised their ugly heads , so sorry that you're having to deal with this .

Quick thought about the Anusol . I have found that the ointment is thicker than the cream , so seems to stay in place and work better .

Also bought a portable plastic bidet type insert for the loo from Amazon , I'm sure others are available ! It really helps too .

Do hope that you're feeling much more comfortable soon .

    Kindest regards ,Sandy xxx

I've found Preparation H wipes are very good to carry around for when I'm out.
