Feeling wobbly

my hysterectomy was two weeks ago yesterday and I’ve been doing great up until the last couple of days. I’m feeling really light headed, a bit nauseous and yesterday morning I had a show of blood, nothing much, but it was there.

I’m trying to decide if I’ve caught a bug, if this is just something that happens, or if I should be seeing someone medical. I don’t want to take up doctor/nurses time if this is just something that can happen.

Anybody else had this?

  • Hello I'm sorry to hear you're not feeling great today. Gentle hugs coming your way. Your symptoms could be down to all sorts of things - you may have overdone things, for example, or you may be brewing an infection if some kind. It is very early days after what was major surgery so your body is still adjusting to it all, Having said that, our mantra here is always "when in doubt, get checked out." So, rather than sit worrying, please give your CNS a call and ask her advice. She won't mind and she certainly won't think you're wasting her time. Hopefully she'll be able to reassure you and if she thinks you need to be seen by your team she can arrange it. Please let us know how you get on x

Thank you Fairycake I did speak to her on Monday, she actually called me, I did tell her how I was feeling but today I’m feeling worse with the light headedness and I hadn’t had the spotting. I think you are right I should ring her back. TY x

Granny you haven't been racing around have you? Or overdoing it? It's so easy when you feel well you think "oh I'll just do this" not realising bigger things are going on inside. I agree with fairycake..ring your cns. Did your original bleeding stop after the op? I'm six weeks post up now but am having problems with a bit of the scar that refuses to close up. They are packing it at the moment but I'm back on bed rest again..well 75% bed rest\25% gentle exercise to prevent the dvt . I've been visited by a tissue viability nurse now and they want to fit a bigger, better VAC dressing now which is more powerful than the PICO dressing I had some weeks ago. Hopefully when it's fitted it will heal the thing up and remove all this wonderful exude I'm producing. It has to be collected in a drain but at least I get a handbag this time to put all the clobber in..but hardly Gucci I suppose! Anyway you rest up,call your nurse and I hope you find out what is causing it and get better soon. God bless.x

Oh Little Lamb poor you, I hope it all settles for you soon. As if we don’t have enough to deal with.

I hardly bled at all after surgery and yesterday was only a spot. I don’t think I’ve been overdoing it and certainly not yesterday or today.

I phoned my CNS and got her, it’s usually an answering machine and she suspects I might have an UTI. I then phoned the GP surgery and my husband went and collected some sample bottles and I’ve to hand them in tomorrow. So at least I’ll either get sorted or eliminate that as a possibility.

The light head is not so bad if I stay put so that makes me rest up. If the rain would stop I’d watch the tennis at Queens.

Fingers crossed for a speedy resolution Little Lamb xx

  • Hello GrannyA

Dont worry too much  It is quite common to have a bleed 12- 14 days after  a hysterectomy

I believe it is due to an accumulation of blood behind the vaginal vault - the top of the vagina where the cervix was removed

I hope your recovery is as uneventful as mine was - I had quite a heavy bleed at about  2 weeks post op

My  Gyn onc dosent subscribe to the restricted activity regime apart from avoiding heavy lifting for 6 weeks to avoid the risk of prolapse or hernia

I was upgraded to Stage 3A Grade 3 post op but I am still going strong and have never felt better in my life I decided against 25 fractions of pelvic radiotherapy It will be 5 years in August since surgery when I hope to have my final annual follow up -I will miss seeing my lovely surgeon who is the only person I have seen throughout and has given me so much confidence and has shown me so much kindness

    Very best wishes to you

    Love Petronella xx

  • Some great advice from the ladies , and I agree about you giving your cns a call again about it. I do remember I had a similar situation a few weeks after my hysterectomy but like with everything we are all different always best to check. If in doubt ask. Gentle hugs to you and I hope you feel better soon and I hope you haven't been overdoing it, its easier said then done I know. I felt so good after my surgery that I got carried away and pulled an internal stitch simply reaching for the kettle. I was bending and stretching and getting totally told off all the time, but the thing is easy done we forget ourselves but please be gentle on yourself and hopefully you have just over done it.

    Hi GrannyA,

I didn't have it, but my consultant specifically said to me that I might have a bleed after about 2 weeks which is normal and quite to be expected.

I seem to recall I did feel a bit light headed once or twice.

I remember recovery was not linear, you get good and less good patches.

Hope you feel better soon. x

Thank you everyone. My husband handed in two urine samples for me this morning to check for a UTI as suggested by my CNS after my call to her yesterday. This morning I feel better, no lightheadedness, no nausea. So today I am going to have another very quiet day and take it easy. The weather at Queens looks much better and Andy Murray is due to play as well as a great singles line up. I'll be in heaven if that goes to plan!

I hope everyone has a good day xx

  • Fingers crossed there for you hopefully it was that you just overdid things. Recovery is different for us all and hopefully everything OK and watching the tennis will give you a rest apart from jumping up and down in celebration to applauding Andy Murray, depending on his form.
