How long did people wait after hysterectomy to see anyone.

Waiting times for the post histology results seem to vary. I had mine 3 weeks after the op. I know some ladies here have waited 6 weeks. Have you been allocated a clinical nurse specialist (CNS)? If you have, do give her a ring. They can see your notes and they can usually see the appointments schedule too so she can check if you've been given a time She can chase things up for you too if ne essay.

In terms of your sick note, your GP should be asking you how you're feeling and how you're feeling about lifting etc. S/he can hopefully issue you a new sick  note from a phone consultation if you need one. In terms of returning to work, do talk to your employer about ping back on a phased return and ask what reasonable adjustments they can make to your role to support you. If the care home has a personnel officer they should be able to help you with this. They can also refer you to occupational health for guidance and support. You can ring the Macmillan helpline too and ask to speak to a work advisor about your rights at work. They have useful information to help both employee and employer negotiate an appropriate return to work. The number is 0808 808 00 00 and it's open every day 8-8.

I waited about 3 weeks, but the district nurse came out after about 10 days to take the staples out, so the wound was checked then too. 6 weeks seems very soon to be going back to work even if you didn't have to lift heavy pans, and since you do, I'd be surprised if your consultant, CNS or GP would want you working yet. I'd definitely be phoning your surgery and asking for another sick note.

Hi , I am sorry to learn you haven't had your follow up post op appointment, I find that very strange indeed. I agree with the others that it can vary but I know I had mine done 3 weeks post op. 6 weeks is far too early I for a physical job like yourself there is a lot of internal healing which takes a lot longer then we realise. I am sorry your treatment hospital seems to not be well organized as if your phone your CNS they have direct access to your records and should be able to advice accordingly. I would go and see your GP and get your sick note extended, I know I got one for two months but they maybe different at your surgery but I clearly feel your not ready to be back at work yet, even doing light duties maybe a challenge still at the moment, but definitely see your GP and extend your sick note and give your CNS another call and see what's going on, for your reassurance you really need to know where you stand

Thank you for your advice I feel like I've just been left to it. I had to come home with the catheter on for a week as I couldn't go to the toilet on my own. I wasnt given any after care or discharge notes I got them a week later when I went back to the ward to get the catheter off. When I arrived they didnt even no why I was there and was sat in the waiting room all day with three bowls which I had to give to them when I'd been to the toilet to be measured.  They then gave me a 6 week sick note and discharge letter. Not heard a thing since. I phoned the gyni department they never had anything about an appointment told me to phone the ward i was on and they told me to get in touch with the surgeons receptionist. I feel rude doing that. 

That's not a good experience and shouldn't of happened at all , no wonder you feel abandoned and I feel very angry for you but also I hope that they can address their faults and be sure to sort everything out. Have you contacted PALS at your hospital they usually can be a good way to complain about your treatment but also another way of shaking the tree for answers. With everything else I am sure this is a totally unexcepable way to be treated and I really do hope that you can get things sorted out.

my hospital only gave me a four week sick line, my gp was happy to keep renewing it and I went back to work after 12 weeks, even then my gp would have signed me off for longer. The gp gave me a phased return line for four weeks then I agreed an extended phased return using holidays and flexi time, etc. Do things in your own time and don't rush back to work, although you might feel mobile and able it's a different ball game having to do a days work where you can't take an afternoon nap or sit and rest.

do you have a cns that you can ask about results? If not I think the surgeons receptionist is a good place to ask about your results, or your gp.

Hi Mina take all the time you need and dont go back before you are ready. My hospital gave me only 1 weeks sick note - it was a young doctor who decided that as I only worked in an office I didn't need much time to recover - this despite her being there when my consultant told me it would be at least 4 weeks. I went back fter 8 weeks because i thought I was ready but only lasted a few days before my boss told me to go back to the GP  and get some more time off. My GP also told me off because I went back too early. In the end I had a total of 12 weeks off and 6 weeks phased return.  However \i apreciate that being a civil servant my sick pay is probaby a lot better than a lot of workers.

It’s 6 months since my surgery and I’m still not back to work as I’m still having a lot of abdominal pain. I tried going back at the beginning of May on a phased return but just couldn’t cope.  6 weeks is far too soon to go back. 

Speak to your appointed nurse and please go back to your GP
