Hi
I was diagnosed with Endometrial Cancer 2 days ago. I went into hospital for a biopsy which came back positive for Grade 1 ...I am waiting on an appt for a CT scan to Stage the cancer, then the MDT team meet to discuss my treatment. Then I am called into discuss it and set a date. I will have a total Hysterectomy...I am terrified ugh. It is a diagnosis I never expected. X
Hey Nina,
Sorry to hear your diagnosis.
Just so you're aware, depending on your age, you may not have to have a full hysterectomy. There's a hormone treatment that works on stage 1 that means you avoid the hysterectomy.
But whatever happens, you've got this and the odds say you'll be absolutely fine.

Hi Nina,
Welcome to the group although I'm so sorry that you have had to join, we had another person with a new diagnosis post today in this thread https://community.macmillan.org.uk/cancer_types/womb-cancer/f/womb-cancer-forum/182511/recent-diagnosis?Page=1#1350502 you might want to jump on the chat and share your experience, it helps to have someone to share tips with.
i had grade 1 cancer at stage 1a and was treated with a hysterectomy nearly two years ago, my experience is in the other thread but feel free to ask me anything, I know how worried and scared I was after my diagnosis but I promise it gets better when you have a treatment plan and start taking action.
lots of love

Sorry to hear what you’re going through. I’m in a similar position so I know how scary it all is. I am definitely going to have a total hysterectomy too...hopefully quite soon. I was shocked at my diagnosis too. It’s made me question everything but it’s also made me realise how precious life really is. If I hopefully come through this I don’t think I’ll ever be the same again. Not better or worse...just changed somehow. You’re doing the right thing by sharing what you’re going through...it really does help. You’re not alone in this xx
Hi Nina5252,
I'd agree, if you don't need to preserve your fertility any more and are near or at menopause, then hysterectomy is the way to go. I think hormone treatment is great for women who want to keep their fertility.
A hysterectomy, though significant surgery, is very common indeed, so surgeons get lots of experience, and most of the recovery is pretty straightforward I think, speaking personally. I'd have gladly had it out preventitively after I'd done menopause if offered the chance, it's one less body part to go wrong , or more wrong, once you have finished with it. I had open surgery for fibroid removal in my 20s, which was very similar to a hysterectomy in process, the surgeon just cut lots of fibroids out and repaired my womb, which is why I have children( my gynae-oncologist was impressed, one of my fibroids weighed 500grams). So, I have almost done it twice so to speak, and would advise you not to worry, it's very do-able.
I feel pretty fully recovered at 8 weeks, minor discomforts, still get tired some days, but fading, but will go the full 3 months before resuming high impact excercise ( jogging) just to be on the safe side.
In my circumstances I am now doing chemo and radiotherapy so expect to start feeling less well some time soon.
All in a good cause though.
Good luck for a smooth and uneventful journey and a good outcome.
Hi Nina5252
I am 3 weeks post my full Hysterectomy by Key Hole Robotic Surgery & recovering very well I wanted to put ur mind at rest. I am 55 & was just post menopause when I was diagnosed with Stage 1A Cancer of the Womb ( which was picked up from my routine smear test through some abnormal cells ) I was then referred for a few tests including Colposcopy, Hysteroscopy , Pelvic Ultrasound, & finally a Pelvic MRI with contrast after all these tests it was confirmed I had Cancer I was in complete shock at the time it all happened so fast from being told on 10th April to having my Full Hysterectomy on 20th May 19
I am pleased to say at my follow up appointment on 5th June I was told my results from my Operation was a complete success I was given the all clear & No further treatment required I was overwhelmed by this fantastic news
so Nina I know all the emotions u are going through because I was going through the same the worse part is not knowing what the diagnosis is going to be but my own experience has been good my CNS nurses have been very supportive & like you I joined this group & was very welcomed especially from Mrs Woodentop & NannyAnny & other very kind ladies It is great we can share our experiences & to know other women are going through the same thing I appreciate some are having a much more difficult time but it is great we can support each other
As I said at the beginning I am into my third week after my Operation & everything is fine except I am still bleeding I am told this is quite normal after a hysterectomy procedure I was wondering how long can this continue for & if it carries on should I go back to see my GP I am in no pain & I know it is still early days & of course u still have to heal inside & take it easy for at least the first six weeks
Nina I wish u all the best & I hope ur Journey will be a good outcome like mine Try not to worry although we all do as that is only natural
I am sending you & all the ladies a massive virtual Hug
Hello So very pleased to hear that you got the all clear! I'm doing a little happy dance round my kitchen for you If your bleeding continues do ring your CNS for advice. If she thinks you need checking out by your gynaecologist she can arrange it. Sending lots of good wishes for your recovery. Onwards and upwards! x
Hi Take That
Thank You so much for your kind words. I had the scan yesterday, had a bit of a melt down with Claustrophobia. The fact that they put you into the scanner and it is right there at your face really freaked me. I asked the Radiologist to take me out! She asked if I wanted to come back. I said NO! this cancer is bigger than my fear I need to do this. She was so good, she inched me in little by little. When she left I closed my eyes and concentrated on calming myself down. Before I knew it the bed was moving in and out and I wasent under the scanner in one place for any time. I then had the xray dye and felt like I had went to the loo there and then , but I hadnt. While I was typing a reply to you the hospital called. I have an appt for scan results tomorrow. Now I am freaking as the nurse said if not thursday then monday. Does this mean it is worse that I think, they are bringing me in sooner.
