Hello, I’m just wondering if anyone can clarify something, after diagnosis is it standard to have ct scans and MRI or only if the specialist suspects it has spread and is advanced? Is it normal to have all these done regardless of the stage? Having an anxious moment

  • Hi Sunshine, it is normal to have the scans done so that they can get the full picture of what is going on before they have their meetings to decide on treatment.  Please don't worry, I think we have all had them done although I didn't have a CT scan until after surgery as someone had omitted to order one, I just had an MRI initially.

    Hugs, Lesley

  • Hey Sunshine,

Good news is that it is usually standard practice to scan someone after diagnosis. It's one of those "dotting the i's and crossing the t's" things.

So definitely not something to worry about.

Ok thank you, I’m a bag of nerves at the moment, Wednesday we find out results and what the plans are well hopefully we do . It’s horrible waiting around not knowing and my mum is convinced she only has weeks to live ( I’ve told her not to be so silly she has much longer no matter what)

  • Hi Sunshine,

I had both (on the same day as it happens). It just gives them a better picture of how to treat you. I'm all for that!!!  xxxxx

XOh yes definitely just all a bit daunting, the nurse asked my mum when her next appointment was afterwards, my mum thinks they asked because the results were not good what came up on the scan but I said of course not. We have to wait til Wednesday to find out what’s going on and what stage and it seems forever away at the moment.

  • They probably asked when her next appointment was so they knew what time scale they had to process the scans and to be sure the doctor would have the results on time for her appointment.

Wednesday isn’t too far away now so not too much longer to wait. I hope the results are okay and they can help you with the next stage for plannings etc. Ask them questions, nothing is too silly to ask!!

    sending you all hugs xx

    Everything’s just peachy! :)

I hear you...I had the C-bomb dropped on me last Weds and had a CT scan by Friday morning.  It was made very clear that the scan was required to asses what's going on in there.  I find out on Thursday what the results/treatment plan are, so it's mentally a long week.  Fingers crossed (for your mum too)  :-)

Completely throws you off guard doesn’t it? I’m a worrier anyway before this, my anxiety is through the roof so I can’t imagine how you must be feeling but hopefully everything will be fine. So hard to carry on as normal and not let my mum see how much I’m scared/worried. Before my mum was diagnosed I knew nothing about this type of cancer or the symptoms so I think more should be done to make people aware of it.

  • That's just what my consultant said to me. There's plenty about breast cancer, but not much about womb cancer. She said they usually got to her when it was more complicated. I told both my girls to put it on Facebook and to say about the symptoms. Didn't know what else I could do and it may help someone!!

I know what you mean, I’ve learnt so much in the last week about it all and I’ve done so much googling about it (I try not to do too much)

about 7 years ago I went for my first smear I had been putting it off for ages and I got so fed up with getting letters from the doctors advising me to go that I went and had one and it came back dodgy and needed an op to remove pre cancerous cells.. they done it wrong and nearly killed me ( burnt through main artery and sent me home) but anyway after I recovered etc I went on fb and urged everyone to go and have a smear just to be sure I kept on as this was just after Jade Goody died from it aswell I think? My friend hadn’t had one and we were the same age so I kept on pestering her to have one.

My mum having this though is much more scarier even if it was me instead that had it. We are so close and she’s been there through everything with me so it’s really hard to be strong and positive and not let her see how upset I am.
