Hi,
Anyone that's had 5wks of RT and 3 brachytherapy sessions do you know when a scan will be due? X
Michelle
Hi ,
I don't think there is any particular schedule. I had that treatment 4 years ago and I have no scans of any type since then. I think it depends on the hospital and the individual circumstances. I have a feeling they are only given if someone has symptoms that need checking out. Scans do involve a small dose of radiation so are only given when needed.

Hello Lipgloss,
I was supposed to have a ct scan at approx 6-8 weeks after my 5wks of radiotherapy was done. They said it was pointless before then as there'd be too much scarring from the treatment and that needed to heal first. In the event I waited 3 months - they said it was demand on the scanners but the doctor said something which suggested the scan had t been ordered. I'll never know, but in the event it confirmed my post chemo scan result (no evidence of disease). Might be worth checking with your nurse after the holidays. Hope you're ok x
hi Michelle, I had rt and brachytherapy same as you. There was never any suggestion of a scan afterwards or since (I've had 2 x 3 monthly checks so far.). I dont think they do scan routinely unless there is a reason to. Xx
Hi Michelle, same as the others for me too - I had my 5 weeks of RT and 2 brachytherapy sessions completed October 2017 but a scan has never been mentioned. I do however have 6 monthly chest X-rays and CA125 blood tests done at the hospital I had the RT. I think this is because I had LVSI which was the reason for the RT.
Hugs, Lesley xx
I had 3 sessions of brachytherapy and have had my 3 month check but no scan.
My mum has just finished radio (with chemo before that) as it was in a lymph node. I asked the Macmillan nurse a while ago what follow up would be and she said 6 monthly check uos and no post treatment scan as it would be pointless as everything was removed during surgery and the post op pathology is more accurate than a scan at telling them whether they have removed it all. I would take it as a positive .
I think scans are only used post treatment where radio or chemo has been used as frontline treatment to shrink or destroy tumors. In most womb cancer cases the cancer is removed my surgery and radio and chemo are adjuvant treatment, to deal with any microscopic stuff that may be lingering (but wouldn't show on a scan anyway,)
