Had another transvaginal scan before chrChrist I'm 53 started menopause 47 .. started bleeding 3yrs ago. After no petiop for 3 years .. I've had 2 biopsy 12 months apart .. clear but still bleeding on cc and off and after sex .. they now want me again to do biopsy .. they say my endometrial wall is 7 mm. Which is too thick for post menopausal .. can't they just do hysterectomy .. confused.. any help or anyone had this thanks XX
Hi Tracy,
I think they will sometimes be reluctant to offer hysterectomy as it's an operation, as you have already been through menopause you hopefully wouldn't have a surgical menopause so that's the major side effect taken care of. A hysterectomy is still a big operation though and it takes at least six weeks to recover, you feel well after the first week or so but have to be really careful with bending, twisting and lifting, so need some help at home and time off if you work. We have mostly all had a hysterectomy so if you do opt for one let us know and we can give you our top tips to prepare for it and for recovery at home.
When is your next appointment? Keeping busy and distracted whilst you wait should help.

Hi Arla..
I started menopause at 47 .didn't bleed at all until 50 .. then I was taken In for transvaginal scan which they also did biopsy at time it was clear . But then 12 months later bleeding again. I don't think this is cancer but I'm no doctor had a laperoscopy wrong spell last Jan .. but stust on off bleeds. In July 26th started hrt ..4 days later I bled for month .. I stopped hrt in September had on and off bleeds in Oct 26th holiday . After intercourse bleed for 2 weeks .. then stopped .. in November told docs bout on off bleeds so Dec 7th had another scan internal ..as I didn't want biopsy again. I now have to go back as gyny said if endometrial wall is thicker than 5 mm need to be seen in. Gynecology it's 7 mm thick .. only cos I was being nosey lookung on screen at docs . My doc referedr as urgent so in next 2 weeks . I read up about condition called endometrial hyperplasia .. which is non cancerous .. sorry to here about you and glad this group is here I can overthinking sometimes . Xxxx.
Hi Arla . Had an appointment yesterday Wednesday .. saw consultant in gyny . He did try to take another biopsy . But now booked me in for a hysteroscopy . Which they wanted to do Friday . But my father is I'll and I have a pre op apoinappoin with him he's got enlarged prostate . But they doing op so need to find out why . They also have said that there has been charges in my endometrial wall since last year . Do they have suggested I have hysterectomy within 8 weeks .. I'm confused as .I don't think it's cancer but I suppose they are concerned as any thickness postmenopausal isn't normal so waiting game XX lots love

Hi Tracy,
I'm glad that things are moving on for you and you now have a solid treatment plan (the hysterectomy). You could ask at your next appointment if they plan to take your cervix, tubes and ovaries too, it hopefully shouldn't make too much difference to you as you are post menopausal so hopefully shouldn't have a surgical menopause.
We have lots of tips to prepare for the hysterectomy when you are ready to hear them then let us know, it's not too bad, I was surprised at how well I felt afterwards.
I hope that things go well with your dad too, it sounds like you have loads on your plate at the moment, remember and take good care of yourself too.
please keep letting us know how you get on.

thank you for reply XX
Let them know when you have holidays planned, etc, they will try and work around them for you, if they can. I went on holiday just before my op, I was glad I went, it kept me busy. Six weeks is a guide, it takes longer to feel back to normal so try not to push yourself too hard, it's worth putting yourself first for a while, even if it goes against what you think you should be doing.

Hi Trudy,
The operation was nowhere near as bad as I thought it would be, i was up and showered and dressed on my own the morning after my op. I thought I'd be bed bound and not up to much for a while but I was quite mobile, I took it really easy for the first week or two but I was driving our automatic car after three weeks and meeting friends for lunch, took myself to the doctor, etc.
You just have to be careful about bending, twisting and lifting but they will hopefully give you a physio book to show you how to move and some gentle exercises to build things back up to normal.
Pain wise I was really surprised at how well I felt too, I was told I'd have a morphine pump but I didn't get one and I didn't miss it, I took the oral painkillers they gave me as they offered them and I went home after two nights with ibuprofen and paracetamol and I only took them for about a week.
The wait to be taken into theatre for me was a bit long, I arrived at 8am and got taken in at 11ish, so I'd recommend some easy reading like a magazine or some games on your phone, I had a book but couldn't concentrate on it. I woke up in recovery and sleepily chatted to the nurses for a while and then was up in the ward by about 4pm.
my top tips for your hospital bag are windeez (the post op wind can be really uncomfortable), lozenges (I woke up with a really dry throat and coughing pulls a bit), ear plugs (hospital was really noisy) and a cushion to hold against your belly on the way home and when you get up and down or cough, it helps support everything until it settles again. my other tip is to keep on top of your bowels and take action if you don't go to the loo, I waited too long and it wasn't good, prune juice and orange fibre drinks helped get things going for me when I finally took action.
Please ask anything at all, I know how worrying the wait is but I'd honestly do it again tomorrow, it wasn't bad at all.
Lots of love
