Post menopausal. Thickening womb lining.

Hiya,

Im not sure if I should be in this forum or not. I haven't got cancer..not that I'm aware of.

I'm 52 (53 in January) 7yrs post menopausal (perimenopausal from 38) Suffered with menopausal symptoms all the way.. Tried an array of alternative therapies. Sometimes worked. In the main I have been a bit of a nut case with it.. We'll that's how I feel.

Last year I saw a doctor and broke down. He asked me if I was depressed. I thought maybe I was. I certainly suffer with anxiety and have had bad depression in the past. I didn't go on any anti depressants though and tried to sort it via Chinese medicine. It helped. Fast forward to the last 4/5 months and I'm all over the place again with symptoms. Hot flushes, moods erratic, ZERO libido. Been with my partner near on 4yrs, lived together a few years. Regrettably, I am not in love with him as I should be. After lots of talks we have decided that we are no longer a couple. A weight lifted but still not feeling 100%

I decided to go on hrt. Started to take it last Sunday. Monday I had tell tale period pains..afyer 7yrs this felt very strange. I went with it as maybe thought it was normal from going on the hrt. Tuesday worse, still went with it but was monitoring it. By tea time I didn't like the pains.. I walked into the doctors and explained as above to the receptionist. Also to add in.. I was going to the loo lots. 5/6 times in one night. This is quite common for me in the past too. The pain at night was keeping me awake too. I noticed my urine to be darker. I told the receptionist this too. She advised me to do a urine test and take back the Wednesday morning. This I did. Wednesday I was in agony, holding onto my steering wheel breathing the pain away which resembled labour contractions. I went home from work and took co-codamol and it knocked me out a bit. Wednesday night still in pain Thursday morning went to the doctors before work to see if the results had come back They hadn't, so I made an appointment to see the nurse after I had finished work The nurse was really good and thorough I thought. Nothing was detected in my urine, no water infection. She did another one and dipped it, still nothing. She then said could see how much pain I was in and clearly not well so typed up a letter n told me go to a+e.

Got there at 4pm. Was seen by a student doctor, very good. She got a doctor who decided to have Bloods done and another water test and again I was examined by pressing on the areas in pain. I was sent to surgical assessment unit to wait for results. Results came back fine for both.

I was reffered to a gynaecologist He was again thorough. Took lots of information. He did 2 internals with fingers and the thing that they use for a smear. He felt that was fine. All along I've thought that it was the hrt that had brought this on. I have had similar sharp pains now again over time but never like this last week. The gynaecologist thought that maybe it was the hrt and for me to stop it. He asked me to go back the hospital on Friday morning for a abdomen scan and a trans vaginal scan too, to eliminate anything like cysts.

Friday I had the scans. The trans vaginal scan was painful in some areas. The results showed no sign of polys or cysts. However there was thickening of the lining of my womb. As I'd not had a period for 7yrs the gynaecologist sad that wasn't t normal. So I had to have a biopsy. This was again quite painful and took 2 attempts.

I asked the gynea when I would get the results and she said within 2/3 weeks. I asked her straight that if anything untoward was showing up would it be before that timescale. She said she was sending it as urgent so maybe. That made me feel better as if I don't hear anything for a while I'll assume it's OK.

Of course I have looked on the dreaded google. I'm not overly worried as I feel that I'm really being looked after by the best possible medics.

So my question is: Seeing as I'm so far post menopausal is this normal or abnormal and what are others experiences with this please?

I feel that it isn't normal more due to the fact I haven't had a period for so long.. I haven't had any spotting either. Except maybe once a year or so ago if my memory serves me right. I went to the doctors but nothing came of it, no tests.

I am not looking on Google anymore and after finding this site felt the need to blurt it all out and ask for the real experienced advice. It's the waiting game that is the thing.

Thank you for reading this, I was advised to post 8n this group.

  • Hi happynow,

how did you get on at the doctors?

    xxx

  • I wish I hadn't gone now. It was a doctor who doesn't really know me.

I wrote things down and let him read it. He looked at my notes on the computer too and saw that I have fibromyalgia and under a Gastroenterologist too.. He turned to me and said it would be both them. Never asked to examine me or any sort of check. Asked me what painkillers I'm taking and prescribed me sachets to help with my bowels.

I didn't have the energy to question anything  So I left. Didn't go to work today, I tried to catch up on some sleep

Still feeling out of sorts. Maybe I am having a flare. I'm usually able to manage my pain. The abdominal and pelvic pain is different though, I know that isn't fibro.

I'm sure it'll all pan out soon.

    Thank you ladies xxx

  • That's must be so disheartening, you could see if you can see your regular gp if you still don't feel right, we know our own bodies.

i hope that you get a better sleep tonight and get some answers soon.

    lots of love

  • Sorry to hear that, HappyNow. I hope you get some answers soon. Hugs coming your way. x

  • Hiya everyone,

Just wanted to give you an update on everything.

I have just had the results of my biopsy after chasing them up yesterday.. They are all FINE :-)

Yesterday I had to chase them up as I was again in more pain that usual over the last 2 days. It was far from easy as no one seemed to know of me from being on the surgical assessment unit 2 weeks ago. I was given 3 secretaries numbers to try. All of them eventually found me and told me the results were in but of course couldn't tell me over the phone. The last secretary told me she was going to find a consultant and get him/her to review them and go from there and assured me she'd ring me today.

So she did and there is a letter on its way to me and my GP.

I am shaking with relief. She read the letter out to me.

As I said I am so so relieved.. Although I am a little confused about what the letter says.

She said the consultant reported that he has looked over both the scans and the biopsy and they are completely normal. I asked her if that was right as my Trans Vaginal Scan showed not normal and a thinkening of my womb lining. She assured me all was fine from the consultants review of the tests.

I asked how thick my lining was and it is 9.4mm.

So..i am very glad of the consultants report on it...However a bit (quite a lot) confused as to why he said all the tests were completely normal when I was told by the gynaecologist who checked my TVS that it wasn't and that's why I had the biopsy.

Can any of you amazing ladies  shed any light on this for me please? And is a thickness of 9.4mm OK really?

I appreciate what all you ladies are going through and you have all unbeknown to yourselves kept me going and staying pretty calm over the past 2 weeks. I have stayed away from Google and only read this forum. You are all beautiful beings for how you help others out in spite of your own issues going on.

    Thank you all so much.

    Hi Happynow,

I already pleased for you, this is good news. Great! As to your questions, as you can appreciate, we are not medically trained and so it would be wrong for us to try and answer. Why don't you phone your gynaecologist for an explanation, as that was where the concern came from? You could also ask about the lining thickness. The gynaecologist will have access to your scans etc, I should think.

    Lots of love

  • Hi Alison, thank you for your reply x

That's the problem as I don't know who my gynaecologist is as yesterday no one was really assigned to me or my results.  I was past from department to department until the last Secretary in gynecology said she'd grab the first consultant she could to review the results and then write them up and let me know accordingly. The letter says I am now discharged.

As I said I'm really relieved and happy with the news.. Although somewhat confused and now a tad unsure.. I have a gut feeling to not just accept it as how it has been reported..

I'm not for one minute saying the consultant is wrong but its just the fact that its saying the scans were normal when it wasn't... Does it mean after looking at all the tests together they are all normal? I know you can't say.

I feel like I do need to be seen by a consultant and shown the tests and explained to about them.. Then at least I can ask questions as well.

Sorry if I'm coming across as not accepting what the profession medic is a saying.. I feel relived but confused.

    Thank you hun x

    Hi HappyNow

So pleased to here that your results came back as fine. This is great news, however, I can fully understand why you're still worried. My personal view of the NHS is that if it's life threatening then they are amazing, as many of us (myself included) have experienced. However, when it's not, then sadly they can be frustratingly slow.

As mentioned by others, I'm not a doctor, but I would suggest getting a follow-up appointment with your doctor to discuss what next. It sounds as though you'll have to push them.

Keep us posted. It is lovely to hear good news stories, and although I've only been active on this site for a couple of weeks, the posts I read from the other ladies here are always amazing and so supportive. I'm so glad I found this forum. Just reading some of their replies to other posts helps me through my day.

    Take care xx

  • hi Happy now. I'm so pleased to hear your news, what a great relief that must be. As Alison says, were not medically qualified but I do believe that 9 cm lining is above normal but not excessively so. I second the advice to go see your GP now. The results will be sennt to him/her now and he will be able to explain much better to you. Besides, you still want to get the problem with the pain and trouble you are having. The great news is that its not cancer. The not so good news is that's probably put you further down the priority scale. But I know which end of the priority scale is the best place to be! have a lovely weekend xxx

I agree with the other ladies about seeing your gp. There are always letters and results sent to the gp. Even if the gp can't answer every question you have, they can send an email later to the consultant to find out.

    Good luck

    Love
