I decided to start a thread for any arts and crafts you do and want to share. I know I post in others but I just wanted to share how much its helping to calm my mind and would definitly recommend everyone having a go. You don't have to be prefect just happy with your own achievement. Its Daloni that actually gave me this idea for a thread with her wonderful things she makes. So here is our very own girls.
My latest project...
I have done the shading but I think I may add some colour maybe watercolor not totally decided yet.
Hi All, Any suggestions for upcycling my 1990 ivory silk wedding dress?
I hope you don't mind me coming into this thread as I don't have endometrial cancer but you seem to have such creative ideas I'm wondering if you could give me some suggestions.
I've been wondering for a while what to do with my old wedding dress, and as my daughter has just become engaged I'm now wondering whether the fabric might be incorporated into something for her wedding. I think she'll be wanting a more contemporary outfit rather than a traditional style wedding dress so this will be the first thing to sort out, but I'm wondering if the fabric might be made into a clutch or similar bag or whether there might be other items too. Â
I guess it could be used for some sort of decorations for the venue, such as table runners and bunting, but if anyone has any suggestions - even if they are nothing to do with my daughter's forthcoming wedding, such as cushion covers, - I'd be very grateful to hear them. Even better if you know of anyone who does this sort of thing as sewing and creative stuff isn't my forte!

Hi JayKay8,
I tried to turn my wedding dress into an evening dress by firstly dying it. This was a long time ago, and maybe dyes are better now, but the result was disaster!
My daughter made a lot of her own things for her reception. I was assigned to making 11 white table cloths out of loom state material that she got cheap! There was black thread running through it which had to be meticulously picked out! The result was good but it took me ages! She made the purple runners, bunting, the menue cards with peoples names on. She even saved wine bottles for flowers and made fancy labels for them. She knitted her own bouquet, and bolero to go over her wedding dress!!
If you can bear to cut your dress up, I think table runners or bunting are your best bet, but if you get someone to do it for you it could cost a lot. Good luck!!
Hi JayKay8
What a lovely idea to upcycle your wedding dress. Accessories for the bride and maybe the bridesmaids sounds good. Could you make a shawl (stole /pashmina) for the bride and bridesmaids. I've heard of a few people having them made into christening gowns for their grandchildren. Could you use some of the material in the invitation cards in some way so that they become keepsakes for the guests? My daughter turned a wedding invitation she received from her friend into their wedding gift by mounting it onto beautiful papers and then into a frame. The bride and groom were delighted as they hadn't thought to keep one as a memento. Use some of the material to line a wedding memory box for the happy couple to keep their wedding cards etc in, or maybe to cover a book or album they can use as a guest book on the day. Whatever you make, I'm sure your daughter will love it x
