I decided to start a thread for any arts and crafts you do and want to share. I know I post in others but I just wanted to share how much its helping to calm my mind and would definitly recommend everyone having a go. You don't have to be prefect just happy with your own achievement. Its Daloni that actually gave me this idea for a thread with her wonderful things she makes. So here is our very own girls.

My latest project...

I have done the shading but I think I may add some colour maybe watercolor not totally decided yet.

  • I don't know whether this actually counts as craft - they  are  certainly not very artistic! . I have spent the afternoon making some face covers,  They are not protective masks but it seems that there may be a requirement to cover our noses/mouths when lock-down ends (if it ever does for us over 80s!)   I followed the instructions on the CDC website using two old pillowcases but the suggestion that I could tie the ends of a 6 inch piece of elastic and still have a loop long enough to go over my ears was too much for my clumsy fingers. So I used longer elastic and sewed it together by machine.

Not very comfortable and if you wear glasses it gets a bit crowded behind the ears! Still, if it is the only way I will be able to go out ....... There is no photo of me wearing one, it's not a pretty sight!

  • It certainly does count as crafts . Plus a very useful one too and yes everything is so uncertain with the lockdown will it be lifted will we need to wear facemask so its helpful to have some ready and waiting. There really good too, never thought of using pillowcases but yes it helps.

  • GBear,  Congratulations first of all on your Community Champion award - which I'm not at all surprised about as you are fantastically supportive and kind.  And thank you also for starting the Arts and Crafts group.  I often look at things posted in the group.

    xx

  • I did this yesterday in watercolor again. I am doing a lot of practising with watercolor because I find it difficult, hard to correct a mistake, this was my second attempt because the first went wrong and I couldn't recover it. So how do you put it, "if first you don't succeed try try and try again".  Thank you , it was great for the online community champions to get the national award, the community is such a wonderful and supportive place and its an honor to try to keep it that way.

    Such talent Gbear beautiful xx

  • Thank you ,

It gives me pleasure to paint and also I love to be able to show how doing something like this whether it be painting or crafts can really help the mind.

I have found its helping me a lot at the moment. Got a lot on my mind that distracting me at the moment a reason I am not been about on site. Because its made it difficult for me to be able to get the words out that I want. I have lost 3 friends very recent one to cancer on the 15th May then one the week before to covid-19 then another shortly before that to covid-19. So its left me feeling pretty numb at the moment, I am angry I can't attend the funerals or more important the chance of going and saying goodbye I think this is the most important opportunity but also not being able to be there and comfort the family left behind. They may well totally understand due to the current restrictions but it doesn't make it feel right. Its ironic that a friend once spotted that I can do my best art work when I am sad. I want to be a confident artist to be able to do great work all the time. It must seem silly but its ironically happened all the same. Plus dealing with a couple of infections that I am under treatment for isn't helping. My GP says the infection in my head seems to occur when my immunity is low and so they hope I have found and got it treated early as each time I have ended up in hospital, would be good not too this time.
