Hi I had stage 1 grade 1 12 months ago and my consultant is saying I should take HRT and sent me a published medical report saying it was low risk .. I have no clue what to do as I’m struggling

  • Hi Aston1973

It can be a big decision to consider taking any HRT after a cancer that can be affected by hormones. When I had my treatment in 2022 it was a definite no however I am aware that there have been some changes to practice and for some ladies with a very low stage and grade cancer it is not necessarily contraindicated.

You consultant best knows you and your medical history. They have full access to all parts of your post op histology so I would be guided by them. I suppose it is always going to be a pros vs cons decision and ultimately one that only you can decide.

Why not give the Support Line a call and talk to one of the Macmillan Nurses on here. Perhaps have a letter or note down any post op histology with you so you can talk it through.

It may also be worth asking whether some forms of HRT would be better than others- depending on how you are most being affected by symptoms.
