Hi, I was diagnosed in October with stage 1b grade 3 endometrial cancer - carcinosarcoma. I had my hysterectomy and 4 cycles of chemo and finished 23 EBRT last week.
My main side effects throughout radiotherapy were tiredness, loose stools and some stinging when peeing. However since the treatment stopped I've also started dribbling urine all the time. I don't even notice it happening. Is this normal for new side effects to start after treatment has finished? And if any of you experienced it, how long did it go on for?
I’d suggest contacting your CNS and letting her know. I know some women can get some leakage post pelvic radio but I do also wonder if it might also be due to or linked to the pelvic floor being weaker post hysterectomy.
Hi Marblemouse
I had the same cancer and the same treatment.
What I would say is that you have only just finished your treatment and it can take a while to recover.
I would advise you to contact your radiotherapists for some advice. Mine advised me that I could contact them directly with any issues following radiotherapy. You could also get in touch with your CNS.
As this is a new symptom I would suggest getting checked out now rather than waiting until your next review symptom.
Sometimes radiotherapy can irritate the bladder and the nerves and muscles around it. Occassionally there can be some retention that would mean possible leaking. They may also want to rule out any possible UTI. (You can get quite run down after intensive chemo and radiotherapy)
SIgns that you would need to get more urgent advice would be......
- not being able to pass urine
-pain in the area
-new weakness/numbness/altered sensation around the genital area/top of legs/bottom
-feeling unwell generally- fever etc
-Loss of bowel control
-blood in the urine.
This is what I was told by radiotherapists when my treatment ended.
You could also give the Macmillan Support Line a call and speak with one of the nurses.
Hopefully it is all due to irritation from the treatment but it is always better to let them know rather than worry about it.
I hope it settles soon
Jane
