Hi,

Just signed up today,  I am a 50 year old on HRT,  presumed post menopaisal,  Cant be confirmed as I had yhe contraceptive implant for years which stopped menstruation and was told hormone tests were ineffective,

Anyways, about 6 months ago I started experiencing spotting every day, which gradually got heavier wuth painful cramping.  I finally went to the doctor who referred me for a scan, which showed my womb lining was 6.5mm, so I was referred for a biopsy.  I have waited nearly 8 weeks for an appointment, even though I was told it was urgent,  Finally got a date for biopsy on 14/05,

The question I have, is I suddenly stopped blrrding completely a couple of days ago and find this strange as I had kinda got used to bleeding all the time. Has anyone else experienced a period of prolonged bleeding stopping suddenly and is this a good sign?

Thanks for reading

x

  • Hi Wendy,

Welcome to the womb group, you have definitely come to the right place for support. I have received fantastic support and chatted to some lovely ladies in similar positions.

I like yourself had a thickened linings, I have a pre diagnosis after 2 biopsies but I am still under investigation and awaiting final results, it’s been a hard time.

I had bleeding constantly for years before my full investigations happened. For a long time they couldn’t figure it out (I am only early 30’s so the diagnosis was not something they suspected or expected) but yes it did suddenly stop sometimes at times. It would last for a long time and I’d have small breaks.

I really hope your biopsy goes as well as can be and you get some answers soon. I’ve found the waiting the worst bit.

    Sending love

    Frankie.

  • Well, thats the biopsy done, was super painful, but worth it to find out whats going on

  • Well done for getting that out of they way

  • Thank you, now another wait begins....

  • True, hope you don’t have to wait too long x

  • I'm sorry to be a pain and I know I'm catastrophising, its just when the consultand asked me yesterday before biopsy if I had any unplanned weight loss, I said no, and it was only when I got home that I remembered that last time I was weighed, a few months ado, I didnt want to know my weight, the nurse said that was fine, but told me I was a stone lighter than I was this time last year, I've not been actively trying to lose weight and was wondering if this is a concern?  I'm a big girl.

  • Weight lose is good if you were trying to lose weight, not so good if totally unexplained.  A stone in a year doesnt sound excessive. Being overweight increases the risk of cancer so losing more weight if you can would be great.

Waiting for biopsy results is hard. The length of time you wait depends on how busy the labs are but can often be 2 weeks or more. I rang up after 3 weeks and was told my results were back and a letter dictated after 2 weeks but they forgot to post it! so if you dont hear after 3 weeks phone up and ask.

Biopsies may be completely clear (most women dont have cancer) or may show cells with a potential to develop into cancer (where I am) or cancer. If it's a potential problem they may offer a mirena coil and repeat hysteroscopies. If you didnt have pain relief for the first biopsy make sure you ask for it, biopsies can be done under general anaesthetic but you usually wait longer. They can offer local anaesthetic injections and/or gas and air. If you are unlucky they will do an MRI and offer you a hysterectomy. Few women need more than that.

  • I lost half a stone in 9 days a couple of weeks ago! The difference between scales in GP surgery and those at hospital when I had Dexa scan!

  • Thanks for your reply, I know I'm probably overreacting. I was offered coil at time of biopsy, but declined for now as I had a coil before and it was not a good experience, hope all goes well for you x
