Hi I've just had this diagnosis. I'm on tamoxifen. I've got another biopsy booked. They've suggested possible hysterectomy possibly ovaries too..has anyone had their ovaries out for this too?
Hi Hotchocolat
I am sorry to hear that you have developed some hyperplasia after your breast cancer treatment. There is a link between tamoxifen and going on to develop a thickened endometrium.
This link explains a bit more.
I can understand that it is a difficult decision to make regarding your ovaries. One thing I would think would be good to ask about is whether your breast cancer was hormone positive- tamoxifen is given to try to block oestrogen to hopefully reduce the risk of recurrence. The ovaries are involved with hormones so leaving them behind- would this increase your risk of recurrence for the breast cancer? If the ovaries were removed, would this reduce your recurrence risk?
With hyperplasia without atypia- the risk of developing endometrial cancer is lower.
I wonder if it would be worth posting to one of the nurses for some advice- they would be able to hopefully go through the pros and cons with you.
