Hi all, I had diagnosis of Stage 1 Grade 3 endo cancer in December had hysterectomy via keyhole surgery in January (womb, tubes, cervix removed plus lymph nodes) and got histology back a few weeks ago. Positive outcome and no further treatment needed.
I thought I was doing well but felt very tired and about 10 days ago thought I’d got a bad flu. Treated it with paracetamol and drinking fluids, but got worse, had high temperature and was very shivery and shaky. Bad pain at the top of my leg. On Monday I was advised to go to A and E where I spent overnight, they took bloods and had CT scan. I was admitted to gynaecology ward. Found I had serious infection, build up of fluid in my hip area which resulted in a cyst and infection. Doctor advised this can happen sometimes after lymph nodes have been removed.
Been on IV anti biotics for last 48 hours and going home today with another weeks worth of antibiotics.
Just sharing this experience as I had not realised infections connected with the operation could occur at such a late stage. If you get any worrying symptoms post op, make sure you seek advice
I’m sorry to hear this has happened to you. It’s a good job you went to A&E when you did as it could have become sepsis. It’s really good that you are warning others of this possibility so they know to take action straight away if they get symptoms. I’m pleased for you regarding your histology results! That is good news!
Sorry to hear this and hopefully you’re on the mend now.
I got an infection in my wound after an abdominal hysterectomy and ended up back in hospital on IV antibiotics, after which my wound refused to heal and it took 12 weeks to completely seal. I didn't feel ill but my wound started oozing a lot so I sought help.
Like Nicky says, if something doesn't feel right then get checked.
Saying the above, hopefully most surgery patients of any kind sail through their recovery.

Sorry to hear that you have had an infection. I hope that you recover quickly at home.
