Hi all, I just wanted to update you as you have been such a wonderful support to me since I received my diagnosis of Grade 3 Stage 1 endometrial cancer in December. Histology results are really positive - was advised by Consultant that not only do I not need any follow up treatment, but I don't need any check ups either. I did not have any LSVI present and it turns out I have a POLE mutation which means that the outcome is positive. I still feel in shock a bit as i was not expecting this and had spent quite a bit of time this last week reading up on different treatments and preparing myself for months of treatment.
I want to say a massive thanks to everyone on this forum who has offered such kind words and useful information and support, and I hope that you all receive good treatment and advice.
I was able during the appointment, to raise my concerns re the missed biopsies two years ago, after I had my first post menopausal bleed - the consultant is going to raise this as a concern. I want to ensure that this does not happen to any other women going through treatment/observations for endometrial hyperplasia. It is really important that we continue to advocate for good health services and treatment for women going through a cancer diagnosis. I will continue to support McMillan as they offer a really important service and have helped me through the most difficult time of my life.
Hi Nicky
Thats fantastic news. My diagnosis was Stage 1b grade 2 with extensive LVSI. I was ready to start radiotherapy and had had all the planning done and had a call from my consultant to say I had the POLE mutation. She advised that recent studies showed adjuvant treatment was not necessary and so the radiotherapy was cancelled. I was completely shocked as I was all geared up for treatment and still can’t quite believe it 21/2 years later. I have regular CT scans and internal exams though and will be doing so until I hit 5 years. From my under different hospitals have different policies on follow up. Good luck from one mutant to another !

Hi Nicky, that’s excellent news, so pleased for you! If you do feel you’d prefer in person check ups rather than being on patient-led follow you can always request it - that’s what I did. You may also benefit from asking about your hospital’s “life after cancer” course which is free and can help people move on.
Hi Nicky
That's great news.
it's always important to wait for post op results and although many people focus on the stage and grade, it is, as you have found out- not the only important thing. There have been other ladies on here with the POLE mutation and they have had a similar path to you. It's great that it means no further treatment.
Although you don't need any check ups do contact your CNS is you do get any issues in the future. I am currently on patient led follow up and can contact my CNS at any point for support or advice.
I wish you well for the future and if you need anything you know where we are. Sometimes after a cancer experience it can be afterwards that we can start processing everything. I found the HOPE course helpful. It is free and can be done online via Macmillan.

That's amazing new Nicky, we've gone through this awful journey together and I'm so pleased for you.
Fingers crossed I get the same outcome when I (eventually) get my results.
I hope you're celebrating x
Thank you Jane, I have so appreciated both your and everyone else's advice and support. Strangely I feel really flat today, I think I was so psyched up to deal with treatment and now I almost don't know what to do with myself. The next thing to think about will be when I return to work, but I don't feel nearly ready enough to do so. I think I really need to take some time to get myself better both physically and mentally. And I need to think about some changes to work. But that's for another day.
Thanks Lizbot, please let us all know how it goes, I am hoping all the best for you. Thanks for being there for me on this journey, it really helps to not do this alone.
Thanks Marmite fan, I have been so lucky to have met so many supportive women like yourself online on this forum, thanks again for your advice and support.
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
