Hello all, im new here, i am 55 a very much loved nanna to 5, after post menopause bleed i had hysteroscopy with 3 week wait, told its atypical hyperplasia with a 30-50% risk that at hysterectomy uterus may have cancer, I was shocked.
Im terrified of surgery, I have never had anaesthetic or surgery before, just 3 normal deliveries in my early 20's.
I have wonderful family support which im grateful for and ongoing therapist for GAD and a PTSD trauma.
The consultant said would be robotic surgery or her doing it, think both keyhole style i wasn't taking it all in.
I had robotic keyhole hysterectomy on 22nd December. I was home on 23rd & had a lovely Christmas. No pain and quick recovery. Hopefully you will have a similar experience.
Hi Lovednanny
Welcome to the Womb group.
I am sorry to hear that you have had some bleeding and this has shown some atypical hyperplasia. I can understand that it is worrying to be told that there may be some cancer present.
I do understand that it is scary to be told that you need surgery. I remember being told that although having a hysterectomy is a massive thing for us, for the doctors performing the surgery, it is a very routine operation and they do several a day. It is normal for the surgery to be done via keyhole where it is medically possible and this normally leads to a more straightforward recovery. Mine was in 2022. I was in hospital for 1 night. I had little pain and recovered quickly. Having your family around you will really help.
Having an anaesthetic can be worrying but before surgery you will have a separate appointment and will be thoroughly checked to make sure that an anaesthetic is safe for you. Everything is checked- BMI, blood pressure, ECG etc.
I know that this is a worrying time and if it would help to talk things through please do give the Support Line a call. They are there from 8am-8pm daily. The number is below.
I wish you well for your surgery and if there is anything you want to ask about or need, please do let us know.
Jane
Thankyou for sharing your experience, glad you were able to enjoy christmas
Hi Jane, thankyou for taking time to reply with the info and sharing your own experience, I will make sure to talk everything through at my pre assessment appt.
Thinking of you at this worrying time.
Just to say I found it helpful to consider what strategies I could use to help with the anxiety around surgery and hospital. By the time I got to the hysterectomy I'd worked out a few things that worked for me. You might find your therapist could help you decide if there's anything you might like staff to know/do/not do that might be beneficial.
There's lots of useful info here about preparation, surgery and recovery and I found being prepared helped enormously and gave me a feeling there were some things I was going to be able to do to help feel a little bit in control.
Thankyou so much for taking time to reply, that makes sense my therapist does say look at the things we can control, had very anxious few days, going for pre op assessment today
