Hi Ladies
I am wondering if there is anyone out there who has had similar menopausal symptoms to me and can offer any guidance?
After 10 months of having extremely heavy periods (HRT started after 5 months but bleeding got heavier) I was referred for a TVUS last September. 4 weeks beforehand my periods abruptly stopped - typical! I felt guilty attending my appointment but the results came back with high vascularity of the endometrium which led to a hysteroscopy in October. A week before this procedure I start experiencing what I thought was period cramps and spotting. Hysteroscopy located 3cm polyp on cervix which was removed and biopsied along with some womb lining samples. After 9 long weeks it came back with no cancer detected but early signs of proliferation.
Only problem is that since late September I have continued to experience lower abdomen pains - sometimes sharp pains, often it feels bruised and tender (I imagine it would be how I would feel if I had a caesarian) and sometimes feels like something is weighing down my womb. In addition, I also had odd grey discharge which over the months increased. Vaginal swabs ruled out any infection. Now it has progressed and I have daily brown discharge.
The pelvic pains are pretty constant now. I am so tired. It has been over 4 months since the hysteroscopy - I also had a mirena coil fitted at that time and following the results was discharged back to my GP.
I had another TVUS last week (endometrium measured 5.36mm) but she couldn't clearly see it all due to the coil and I am referred again to Gynaecology. I have a telephone consultation booked next week.
I feel like I am in limbo. Anyone else struggled with ongoing issues but no definitive diagnosis?
Thanks x
Hi Miss Oracle
It sounds like you have had a worrying time.
You have done the right thing in getting checked out and due to the ongoing symptoms a referral back to gynaecology seems wise. I can understand why you feel in limbo and hopefully they can do further testing to try to identify the cause of your symptoms.
My feeling would to be make a list of your symptoms and how they have changed and any questions you may have and get them ready for your telephone appointment. I would also suggest asking whether the hysteroscopy/biopsy could be repeated as although it is somewhat reassuring that it was clear back in October, your symptoms are persisting. Normally they like to try to rule out the most serious potential causes for your symptoms first and then hopefully be able to work out what is causing them.
We do have the Support Line available from 8am-8pm daily if you feel it would help to talk things through with one of the nurses.
