Histology results and genetic testing

Hi everyone, a quick update.

My surgeon called me yesterday with my histology results. It was good news that I am still stage 2, grade 1.

I feel like I can relax again now as I've been so worried my staging would change. They did find some isolated tumor cells in my lymph nodes but this doesn't change staging. I will now have an appointment in the next couple of weeks with my oncologist to discuss next steps in terms of radiotherapy.

My surgeon told me that due to me being only 48 and having womb cancer, he has referred me for a genetics consultation and testing. This won't be at my hospital, it will be 60 miles away. I will need to provide all my family history of cancer. Has anyone else had any experience of this?

  • Hi Michelle

Good news for your post op results. I hope that your radiotherapy goes well.

Worth getting checked out with the genetics. I had to give my family history of cancer but nothing further happened. There are others on here who have been referred though.

  • Hi Michelle

I had genetic testing my histology showed that I could possibly have Lynch Syndrome so I had a couple of consultations with a geneticist. I had to have a blood test and provide my family history. It took a long time I think about 4 months to get the results back and it was negative for Lynch which was a relief.

  • Yes I have- you will be tested for Lynch Syndrome which is passed through the family. I was tested and have it- we have 3 daughters and they were tested and 2 out of the 3 tested positive.  Ir means they are at higher risk of having womb or bowel cancer. They were offered a hysterectomy which reduced their risk by 50%-As they had both had their children they have had one and they are having a colonoscapy every 2 years to monitor their bowels. Whilst at the time it was very traumatic ( I was blaming myself for giving it them although it was out of my control) We are all very grateful now.

As my parents had passed away I have had to inform all my cousins to get tested as they don't know which side of the family it came from or if I am the first to have it. Luckily my brother is clear and I have 3 cousins just getting tested.

Royal Derby Hospital have been amazing- the girls had their hysterectomy within a couple of months of testing positive.

I wish you the very best of luck.

  • Thank you so much for the reply and putting my mind at rest.  It certainly sounds very beneficial. I have 2 sons and grandchildren, I would rather we all know and then it is their decision in the future of they wish to get checked etc.

  • My hospital (Southampton) routinely does a preliminary screening test for Lynch as a routine part of the histology for all hysterectomies for endometrial cancer - and I was negative for that so they didn’t do the main test. I was tested though for the BRCA gene and tested negative which was a great relief.

  • Exactly,  the grandchildren won't be tested until they are 18 and if your sons test negative they won't been to be tested. I have 3 granddaughters who will need to be tested when they are older but Praypefully they may have something to stop it by then.Pray

  • They tested the sample from my second biopsy due to being 36 years old and confirmed I do not have Lynch syndrome and my cancer was hormone driven. Great news regarding your histology. I had surgery on 5th January and my follow up appointment is on 13th Feb. Predicted stage 1a, grade 1. Crossing my fingers this doesn’t change.

  • Fingers crossed for your results. The 13th will be here before you know it.
