Hello its me again, hope everyone had a nice break from things at Christmas I had a lovely couple of days over Christmas managed to stay positive but the last 2 days ive been in awfully anxious and upset. My mri is on weds morning. I think im getting 2, 1 with dye,  I have myself convinced they will find other cancers. My son has worked in a lab, he keeps telling me the biopsy report stating low grade is something to be positive about but I just can't. I've read about cells being left behind & reoccurrence ive just got myself in such a state. Waiting fr mri results will be torture.

  • Hi

Low grade is absolutely good news.

As part of my diagnosis after the biopsy I had both a PET scan when you drink a radioactive sugar solution  and as cancer typically has a high metabolism that these areas fluoresce on the scan and also a pelvic MRI. So I think 2 scans are pretty routine.

These results along with your biopsy results are then reviewed as part of the MDT (Multi Disciplinary Team) and then the consultant will discuss your treatment plan usually starting with hysterectomy. You will also get preliminary staging.

This is a really difficult time as for me my mind kept going to the worse case scenario. If you can just try to focus on the next concrete step and try not to Google.

For me I was initially told I had Grade 3 Stage 3 cancer and even with this news I felt much more settled and less anxious as I could on what was next.

For me the next step was open hysterectomy but the good news was that I was actually downgraded to Stage 1a  after the surgery and now just going for 3 doses of Brachytherapy starting on Tuesday.

This is a hard journey but just concentrate on the next step and reach out when you need i x

I have found this forum really supportive.

  • Hi Ma80, as one who has already been there, may I suggest that you listen to your son and stop googling? Googling will likely result in reading irrelevant and out of date stuff that will just scare you unnecessarily and won’t help at all! After my diagnosis I had an MRI with contrast and was fortunate enough to get my results just three days later. Hopefully yours will be back quickly too and then you can have your pre op assessment and get an op date.

  • Hi Ma80

I am sorry that you are feeling anxious and upset at the moment. I think many on the online community are finding Christmas a tough time to be going through similar.

Having a low grade cancer is good news. They are less likely to have spread and tend to behave less aggressively. The MRI is done routinely to stage the cancer. Some people have a CT, some have an MRI and some have both- all depends on the hospital. But the aim is the same- to pin point where any cancer may be and that will enable them to treat it most effectively. The dye is just added to get a clearer picture.

Rather than focussing and worrying about what could happen, try to focus on what you do know- the cancer is low grade and the scan is a normal next step. Once the MRI is done then the results will go to the MDT who will be able to discuss the next steps. For most ladies, where it is medically possible a hysterectomy is offered. The aim of the hysterectomy is to remove the cancer.

Rather than read about it on the internet perhaps give the Support Line a call instead and talk things through with one of the nurses.

    Good Luck on Wednesday

  • Thank you Jane you have been v kind to me answering my posts. Yes I will try my best to look on the next stage as a help to me.

  • Thank you Blush . That's a good help. I've not been on in a few days so I think I just needed to pop back on for some support. I decided not to tell family yet due to the time of year.

  • Everyone tells others (or not) in their own time. I have only told my husband and my hairdresser at this point! The time of year does feature too to some extent. Tell others only when you feel you can cope with it. Happy New Year and the best of health to you and all others on here....
