Hi everyone, had internal and external ultrasound done after 2/3 episodes of post sex bleeding. Been on hrt for 5 years . Patches and progesterone capsules.
ultra sound found my womb is double the normal thickness at 8.5mm instead of 1-4mm normal thickness.
on urgen 2 week pathway for gynaecology .
ultra sound also found collection of cyst on left ovary. Having camera and biopsy done next sometime over the next couple of weeks.
its the waiting and uncertainty of it all that I’m stressed with. Plus gp said it could be up to 14 working days with it being Christmas and bank holidays over the next couple of weeks.
trying to not let my mind wander to the worst case scenario but its so hard .
hope you all have a wonderful Christmas
Hi Deb77
Welcome to the Womb group.
I am sorry to hear that you have been found to have a thickened endometrium and an ovarian cyst.
There are different types of hyperplasia and some are more concerning than others. It is normal to be put on the urgent pathway for the hysteroscopy/biopsy in these circumstances.
The waiting and uncertainty is always stressful but I think the thing to remember is that they always try and rule out the most serious potential causes first so at this stage they are hopefully ruling out any cancer being present. Once they know what is causing your symptoms, then they can work out the best treatment.
It is always hard waiting and if it would help to talk things through then please do give the Support Line a call. They are there from 8am-8pm daily.

I was on the urgent pathway in November with a thickened womb lining. I turned out to have a very large polyp that unusually they were able to remove during the hysteroscopy - other hospitals seem to make you wait if it's large. The wait for the biopsy results was difficult but I dont have cancer, just cells that may develop into it.
Try to think positive - many biopses do not show a cancer diagnosis and if they do this type of cancer is normally very treatable with a hysterectomy. I'd mentally resigned myself to a hysterectomy and a 6-8 week recovery period and it wouldnt have been the end of the world.
The waiting is often the worst part and it doesnt help that communication can be poor. My letter was dictated a week before it was sent to me and it wouldnt have been done then had I not chased it up by every means possible. While some gps can help with that my gp was, as I expected, useless and just gave me a phone number to call. If you are waiting more than 2 weeks for an appointment or 3 weeks for biopsy results chase them. If you cant get an answer (my local hospital didnt answer what was supposed to be an emergency line so supposed to be always answered) then try another route - PALS if you have to.
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
