Morning , having completed surgery, chemo and bracky by beginning September, oncologist has advised me that i would be referred back to the surgical team for three monthly checkups for the next year or so . Been told that CT scans will now only take place if there are any concerns, due to the radiation. I had 3 CT scans in the last twelve months.
I wonder if this has been your next step aswell after treatment and could I ask what to expect with these check ups by the surgical team ? Did CT scans cease for you after treatment ?( due to radiation being not that good for us if too many CT scans ). Haven’t been told yet which particular symptoms of concern to look out for moving forward but will ask .
Not had an appointment through yet ( due 30 December) so wondering too if I should chase.
Thanks so much and best wishes .
NB - it is only through knowledge through this forum that I challenged the hospital about not needing chemo ( went on to have it due to lymph space invasion), so very grateful for the help and information here and a big thank you again to Jane .
Hi Beepeep
i am having 3 monthly checkups but with oncology team, I assume different hospitals do different things. I had a CT scan 3 months post end of treatment, and was told I would have an annual scan going forwards. The one I had post treatment was the first one since prior to op.
i had my first 3 month review 3 months ago, (I have my next one tomorrow!). The format for that was, talk about scan results, talk about how how I was feeling, side effects etc. then an exam, which included feeling lymph nodes around neck and groin, then a quick internal exam.
I haven’t been told what symptoms I should be aware of, so googled this!
I was told due to radiotherapy, I should have a dexa scan, 1 year post treatment, so thinking about asking about this tomorrow.
Hope this helps
Thank you so much Waidh - very helpful to read. I am quite puzzled by my timescales to scans in my oncology team and they seem a bit haphazard . A dexa scan a good idea too as already diagnosed with osteoporosis some years back .
interesting about the lymph node check too .

Hi Beepeep
the above link may help. Its my experience at post treatment check ups.
I have not had any scans post treatment.
I would be inclined to chase up the appointment- just because they can take a while to come through and with Christmas coming, there may be a delay. I know one of mine was a few weeks late- simply because they were busy.
I think you did the best thing in asking about the chemo- especially with LVSI.
With my first check up appointment- it didn't happen until around 3 months after my post treatment check up with consultant. From memory I was booked in to see the consultant around a month after my last treatment.
