Follow up appointment after repeat biopsy and possible cancer diagnosis

Hi all,

I need some advice please.

I have a follow up appointment this Friday to discuss MRI & repeat biopsy results. I have endometrial hyperplasia with atypia which was confirmed after the initial biopsy on 26th October. The consultant repeated the biopsy “on a larger scale” on 19th November to get a better picture to confirm if cancer cells are present or not. I was told there’s a 40% chance there is, but they were not sampled in the initial biopsy.

I was called last Friday to confirm the appointment and I asked if it would be with the consultant - I was told no, that it was with his registrar who he works closely with. Would it be normal for a registrar to deliver a cancer diagnosis?! I’m grabbing on to any little hope that it’s not progressed to cancer!

If you could shed any light, I’d be so grateful.

  • I received my cancer diagnosis over the phone (it was just past lockdown) and that was from a registrar. I remember that she seemed to be talking so fast that it felt like a fast train shooting through a station without stopping - and I had to ask her to stop for a moment as I was upset and wasn’t taking anything in.

  • Thank you for replying and I hope you’re now back in good health x

  • Hi, as far as I know I’m fine! I’m 4 years post diagnosis - diagnosed Nov 2021, had my op Jan 2022 and then treatment April/May 2022.

  • Hi

I was phoned at home by a senior nurse.

It would have been the nurse who did my biopsy but she was off the following week so we arranged that the senior nurse would phone me at home.

I did have the option to go in for an appointment but I preferred to have the phone call.

After being told over the phone, I did have an appointment later on with the consultant who would be doing my surgery.

I hope it goes well on Friday.

  • Just an update following my appointment today.

Confirmed cancer stage 1a grade 1. I’ve decided to have a hysterectomy which will be in the next 4-6 weeks. I’m not shocked, deep down I knew it would be cancer, I was more worried about the stage/grade and possible spread. Apparently only 2% of cases are in women my age (36). Having a diagnosis and treatment plan is a massive relief. Now to focus on surgery and recovery.
