Hi All, I have recently started on Radiotherapy, Ive had 9 sessions, 16 left to go.
Recently my back passage has been burning and although I have a daily dose of Laxido a stool softener, I still have bouts of constipation.
Sharp pain up the back passage is awful and straining has caused piles.
Has anyone else been through this, what have you done that helps
Thanks
Hi Popoya, well done for being almost half way through your treatment! Have you told your radiologist about this? It’s best to get their guidance over this as they’ll know what it’s best for you to use. Are you sure you’re sufficiently hydrated? Have you changed your diet at all recently?
I have the noona app, I will see my radiologist tomorrow. I try to drink enough but probably not as much as I should. My diet has been a beige diet as it was thought I may have symptoms of diarrhea but this is the opposite.
Hi Popoya
My side effects were diarrhoea and some fatigue. I also had a some nausea.
I would suggest the best thing to do is to talk to your radiotherapists about it. I found mine really helpful with my side effects.
Another thing would be to talk to them about your diet- diet can be important in managing any effects. A beige diet may help with diarrhoea but if yours in more the other then they may suggest adding some fruit, fibre etc.

Hi again, I’ve just googled the beige diet - are you eating a lot of wheat? Wheat tends to bung me up!

Thank you for your helpful reply.
I was wondering if I should switch back to my high fibre diet. It was suggested that I stick with a beige diet. I suppose they thought diarrhoea would be a likely problem.
I will chat to them tomorrow
Yes, I think you are right. I've always had a high fibre diet until now. I was already having bowel troubles before the treatment began. They were planning another colonoscopy before Christmas, but then Radiotherapy takes priority
Lots of low fibre food, bread, pasta, white rice, eggs
It may be that your system isn’t taking kindly to the sudden change - I started a low fibre diet two days before my radio started but I still kept my wheat intake minimal as I know what it does to me. I’m not coeliac but I am gluten sensitive. So I had maybe one slice of white bread per day, plenty of protein, 1-2 pieces of fruit, and veg like baked potatoes (no skin), carrots and peas. Or gluten free pasta.
