Hello ladies,
I found out on Friday that my scheduled 4th chemotherapy session this week has been cancelled due to low Neutrophils. I was disappointed to learn this as 1) future appointments are now moved forwards 2) there’s nothing I can do/eat to improve the situation 3) what if they are still low next week 4) it makes me feel vulnerable having my treatment interrupted.
Irritatingly I feel well in myself and I just want to get on with treatment. I asked my CNS if I could go ahead anyway and she said absolutely not. Please send patience Thanks for listening
Hi Looby
I am sorry that your chemo has been postponed due to low neutrophils.
I was neutropenic a couple of times during my own chemo and on one occasion they had me sat in the chair waiting whilst waiting for blood results that had been taken an hour earlier. I just got into a safe range.
Hopefully yours will start to come up naturally within the next few days. I was also told there was nothing that could be done- it was just time.
The issue is that if they went ahead with chemo and you are either neutropenic or have low neutrophils, if you got an infection your body may not be able to fight it. This could lead to sepsis.
I know it is disappointing, especially as you feel well but a delay of a couple of weeks, whilst chemo is still actively working in your body is unlikely to cause an issue. It is important that your body has recovered enough for the next chemo to be safe and effective.
