Just thought anyone searching for answers might like to view this. I have recently finished 25 radiotherapy sessions plus 2 brachytherapy. The only trouble I’ve had was my back. I have fibromyalgia and can’t manage laying on hard surfaces (the machines). Otherwise I’ve been really well, tired the first couple of weeks but as I’ve mentioned before I think this was the train travel. One day I left home at 14:15 and didn’t get home until 21:00. I’m not complaining as the treatment is free and I’m grateful for it. Other days it might be door to door in 4 hours. The tube strike didn’t help! Although the waiting chairs were padded I still found them uncomfortable when waiting a long time (again my back). All the staff at UCH were wonderful and caring (but so young ). I don’t feel I have encountered any side effects. I had diarrhoea a couple of times but think this was due to the stool softener you are required to take with pelvic radiotherapy. I learnt to adjust the dose myself. Maybe I’ve been extremely lucky? I did have so many people from my old church praying for me! The most I suffered was embarrassment but even that you got used to
.
Very well done for completing your treatment! My treatment (radio and brachy) was in 2022, and I also had very little in the way of side effects - just some bloating and urgency (but no diarrhoea) in weeks 4 and 5. I was also fortunate though in that my hospital don’t routinely require enemas/stool softeners. I did also often find the days long - I could be away from home for anything between 4 and 7 hours. Hoping you continue to do well as you recover from the whole experience!
Well done for finishing your radiotherapy. I also found the days tiring, with the travelling and waiting around.
Thank you for updating us and sharing your experience, I know that it will help others who are facing the same treatment.
I wish you well for the future and if there is anything you need, then you know where we are.
Jane
