Hi hope everyone is doing well
I recently had my hysterectomy for cancer and recovery isn't as smooth sailing as I thought it would be (I've had many previous Gynae surgeries so naively thought it would be similar)
Day of the surgery was super long being up early to have the shower with the special wash and be at hospital for 7. I went into theatre at 12.30 and woke up in recovery at 5 feeling out of it and sensitive to the lights.
I was finding it difficult to focus afterwards and felt dizzy and nauseated and couldn't stop being sick. Had no sleep either with new patients coming in at night and somebody coughing.
Thought I'd feel better the morning but still being sick and felt fobbed off/i shouldn't be there when a staff member (unsure if nurse) without asking me anything or checking anything told the HCA that I'm going home and shouldn't have bothered to change the linen. Felt really uncomfortable like i couldn't lie down again because of it and had to ask a nurse later on if i was ok to lie down as sitting was v uncomfortable and I needed to lay down. I later asked to go home with meds and I was given painkillers and anti sickness which thankfully helped settle things down a few days later.
I've been focusing more on my physical recovery at the moment and trying not to think about the results yet as don't think I'll cope!
Unfortunately a week later my mother fell ill and i had to attend hospital with her so wasn't about to rest as much as I'd like.
I started to notice spotting alongside my increased activity and wasn't too concerned but today (2 weeks later) it's become more than spotting and had clots too which I'm not sure is normal?
I wasn't discharged with any post recovery details or who to contact with any concerns post surgery. Annoyingly it's happened late on a Friday.
I'll be watching out for any fever, smells, too heavy bleeding as don't think it warrants emergent action, but wanted to see if anyone else had a similar experience
Hi, I was told post op to phone the ward directly if I had any issues.
Hello
The best thing is to contact the hospital ward where you were and ask for advice.
Clots is something that they would need to know about. They would likely ask you a few questions about the amount and how often you needed to change your pad etc. Hopefully they would be able to give some reassurance but if you did need to be checked they could advise you.
If bleeding was heavy and continuous then that would be an urgent situation. Or if you felt otherwise unwell or had concerns.
If ever you are not sure what to do- then give NHS111 a call. Or speak to one of the nurses on the Macmillan support Line.
