Pain after hysterectomy

Hi I had abdominal hysterectomy 2 weeks ago. Scar is healing well. Bowels are ok, bladder and no sickness. Eating well. No temperature. However a couple of days ago I developed a pain outside of vagina right hand side and it hurts when walking or standing. When I sit down it eases up. Registrar said it’s vaginal cuff healing. I feel it’s like nerve/muscle pain. Has anyone else had this issue or similar please?

  • Hi Mundesley

I think you can be reassured by your registrar that this is healing pain. You've had major surgery, only 2 weeks ago. To remove the womb lots of different structures are affected, ligaments etc are cut. Then the vaginal cuff has to be stitched in place. Also there is the settling of the organs (bladder, bowel etc) into the place where the womb was. I remember feeling achy and twingy - not really pain- just that things felt a bit bruised and battered inside- and I had keyhole.

If it continues or if it gets worse or any new symptoms start- then do contact your hospital- otherwise it sounds like normal healing to me.

You could also give the Support Line a call and chat to one of the nurses if you are worried.

I wish you well for your recovery and hope that you do not have to wait too long for your post op results.

    Jane
