Hi
After my private second opinion and TVS with the consultant, my NHS consultant thave agreed to keep my ovaries and have made me aware of the risks of doing so and that they may need to be removed due to histology or appearance during surgery. (Surgery was recommended to be carried out via NHS rather than private)
I feel a lot more comfortable going in as though fertility is not in my control,I'd like to avoid the menopause due to my age so feeling hopefull amidst this hopeless situation.
My consultant unexpectedly rang me today to see how I'm doing etc and if I'm ready for the surgery this Thursday. I think it may have been because I had previously rescheduled it by a week due to not being ready. Although I wasn't expecting the call, I'm glad they rang as I was thinking of rescheduling it again in my stress to the lead up.
I would like to know if there are any specific questions that I should ask prior to surgery.
Also, what are people's experiences in keeping their ovaries
Thank you very much
Hi Try
Before my surgery I had a general chat about what would happen and how. I asked about the anaesthetic and was told that there would be a general anaesthetic and also an epidural. I asked about how long the catheter would be in. How long the surgery would likely take. I asked about pain relief and when I could go home.
I asked about whether further treatment would be needed and was told it would depend on post op results and that if I did it may be a bit of radiotherapy. In the end I had chemo too. I was told about the provisional stage but told that nothing could be confirmed until afterwards.
Asked about the blood thinning injections. I asked about general recovery, being active and what sort of things to look out for and who to call if there was a problem. In the end I was given discharge paperwork with it all on.
I didn't keep my ovaries and that was the right decision for me. I just wanted it all out and was worried about having to have more surgery at a later time. Fertility was not a concern for me.
I wish you well with your surgery.
Jane
