Hello everyone. I had some post menopausal bleeding a week ago and had a phone appointment with my doctor who gave me an urgent gynaecologist appointment next Wednesday I explained to her on the phone that I tested positive for hpv the last two smear tests but test results showed no cancerous cells. Last one only in May this year. I therefore presumed they would be referring me for a hysteroscopy or vaginal ultrasound as I have pain in my lower tummy and the bleeding/brown discharge (which has now stopped) was worse after having a poo. I received a letter from the hospital saying I was booked in for a colposcopy to examine my cervix. I am so confused and worried that they will miss anything in my uterus if they just look at my cervix. Do you think they will do all the right tests even though my letter says colposcopy? I am feeling so stressed and worried and don’t understand why they are doing this test when it was clear in May. I still have lower tummy pain and some gelatinous brown sometimes red discharge (sorry tmi). Feeling sick with nerves as I am worried that something is wrong in my womb and they will be looking in the wrong place. If I question it will they think I’m being a know it all? Any words of wisdom would be so gratefully received. X
Hi Riveron
I think you would be wise to check, I have had a couple of confusing events during my journey, and when I raised both times things needed correcting, and there was no problem.
I would suggest you contact the hospital and ask for clarity. When I was referred, the first appt was for ultrasounds, and following that, the very next morning I had a call to arrange a repeat ultrasound and the hysteroscopy. It maybe they want to do colposcopy first.
I don’t think there is any harm in asking for clarity, say you were expecting to have vaginal ultrasound and hysteroscopy, but the letter refers to a colposcopy, can you check what tests they normally do following PMB. Or something along those lines.
Just remember these guys are used to answering queries, and wouldn’t want you to be confused/worrying unnecessarily.
Thank you Lola Bear. I have had one before and they gave me a local. I plan to dose up beforehand and ask for gas and air as I did find it painful. Really dreading it but equally desperate to find out what is causing pain and bleeding. Thank you so much for suggestions. Much appreciated. X
