Surgery day

Today I had my surgery. Full hysterectomy at Prince Charles Merthyr and just to report to anyone waiting and nervous I have had the most wonderful care and the team here have been just fantastic. I had previously felt nervous about the whole process to come but once I arrived I felt fairly calm and relaxed and ready to get this done. The anaesthetic was so quick and painless, I was asleep before I even realised. On waking up I was already on the ward and as yet have not needed any pain relief as I just don’t have any pain! I’m staying in overnight and planning on going home tomorrow. To anyone slightly apprehensive about your surgery to come I hope this helps you to feel a little less anxious.l realise sometimes that it’s not always the same for everyone but I think that health care and surgery procedures have moved on so much it’s just incredible what can be done.

  • Well done and best wishes for a full recovery...

  • Fantastic news! The only discomfort I had was from the catheter, and once that was out I was fine and needed no pain relief. All the best for your recovery.

  • Hi Dormouse

Am glad that it all went well. Hope you are able to go home today.

Always good to get home after being in hospital.

I wish you well with your recovery and if there is anything you need, then you know where we are.

  • Best wishes for your recuperation.

  • Ho there. I can absolutely agree with you Dormouse. I had my robotic hysterectomy at Castle Hill in Hull on 12th June and it was much better than expected. Minimal pain, like you say just get the catheter out as soon as they will allow as this was my issue. I'm now 2 weeks post op and doing amazing - only real thing is feeling more tired than usual but learning to pace myself is working well. The extent of the tiredness was unexpected for me. But I totally agree, amazing what they can do to make major surgery so easy. Thanks to Miss Booth and her wonderful team

  • Womb cancer.  Just joined the forum as I am waiting on my surgery date. I am 72 and this came as total shock as I had no symptoms as such.

I am really scared as to the outcome having lost my husband, and 2 sisters to different  cancers.

Posting on the day of your surgery is amazing.  Well done and I hope all goes well for you.

  • Hi Cherryripe

    Welcome to the Womb group.

I am sorry to hear that you have had a diagnosis of womb cancer. I can understand that it must feel scary having already lost close family members.

Womb cancer, where caught at an early stage is usually a very treatable type of cancer. My surgery was in 2022 and I am doing ok.
