Can't believe I am already 13 days post surgery.
It's been an up and down 13 days but certainly getting better each day.
I was in hospital less than 24 hours and discharged with 56 fragmin injections, painkillers and a months supply of laxatives.
Luckily I managed on just paracetamol after I got home so did not need the codeine based painkillers prescribed.
The worse pain in the first 4 days was from my bowels, the wind was awful, even managing to open my bowels on day 2 post-op didn't help much. So very uncomfortable until I was able to expel the gas.
I have 5 incisions all covered with steri strips that are healing well just waiting for the strips to fall off as very itchy.
I am managing to be up in the day and can make drinks and snacks and enjoying the sun in the garden but finding I need a good nap in the afternoon if I want to be awake to watch TV in the evenings.
I have been to the local supermarket twice as a passenger and my lovely friend takes the trolley and packs my shopping, but do find I get quite uncomfortable in my lower belly afterwards so back to online grocery for a few weeks.
Was the op as bad as I feared, no, but recovery and the restrictions we have to follow to ensure full healing is hard, there can be pain from gas and wounds and even moving your bowels can be painful but time flies and each day gets better and you do find your own way to do stuff that before you took for granted, getting underwear on was a big challenge for me but one I overcome and can now do easily with no bending
For anyone about to undergo a hysterectomy, take each day as it comes, take whatever pain relief you need to be comfortable, no medals given for suffering, and take stool softeners daily these are really a lifesaver.

Hi Karen
Thank you for sharing your experiences and I know it will help ladies who are new to here and waiting to have the surgery.
Am glad that you are doing ok now and wish you the best for your continued recovery.
In the meantime we are here if you need us.
Jane
Thank you Jane,
This forum was such a positive help to me when I joined and everyone's story has helped me face this major surgery with I want to say ease but do not want to trivialise the whole process from testing through to surgery and now the wait for post op results.
Everyone will experience their own journey but can gain strength from the no holds barred experiences ladies have shared in the hope of helping others who find themselves facing the same diagnosis
I will update again soon

Hi Karen, glad to hear that your recovery is going well! I’m surprised to hear you have steri strips still! Have you been told to keep them on? I never had any dressings on my wounds - they were clean, dry and open to the air when I came round from my op.
Hi MarmiteFan
The steri strips are the only closure so having to wait for them to come off naturally, if the incisions had been glued and or stitched as well they could have been removed earlier.
Only 2 left to fall off now as lost 3 n the shower last night, wounds beneath are all healed and clean : )
Hi Karen, aha - ok! I guess this is different hospitals doing things differently again! My wounds had dissolvable stitches near the surface and glue.
That's amazing news
Glad you are slowly recovering. Certainly relate to the bowels!
Defo agree with you that, the bowels and bladder certainly can be lazy at times after surgery.
Have you suffered any insomnia at all? I am almost 6 weeks post op and finding this a challenge at mo.
Hello Libi1
I had insomnia for the 1st week post op and some very poor sleep pre op due to anxiety but now doing ok, I try to have a lie down mid afternoon, not necessarily sleeping but just relaxing and off my feet.
My little dog is loving this adjustment to routine as he loves a nap on the bed : )
All in all, bowels and bladder now back to almost normal, and sleeping better than I have since I was first referred onto the 2"week pathway, I am happy to be on road to recovery ️
