So, my initial referral appointment is tomorrow.

Are there any questions you ladies can suggest I should be asking?

I know my mind will go blank.

Thank you!

  • Good luck for tomorrow.  I think for a lot of us, we came away with not being too sure as to how long we would have to wait to hear results, and how these results would be communicated. What would be next steps depending on outcomes.

    so starter for ten..

    how long to hear results

how will results be communicated to me, will this be face to face, letter, over the phone

Is there a specific day of the week when I will hear (say this as each hospital has a MDT multi disciplinary team, who meet on specific day each week, and if the results need to be run past that team first then you won’t hear until after that meeting)

contact details, phone, email addresses, best person to contact

what are the likely next steps

  • Hi

Ask about waiting times for any procedures and/or treatment.

Take a notepad and pen and make bullet point notes of their replies to refer back to.

    Good luck.

  • Contact details for your CNS, if you don’t have them already

  • Sorry, but what is CNS?

  • It’s clinical nurse specialist - your point of contact for any questions and support

  • Apologies for the jargon! As Travellinggirl said, they’re there to support you office hours Monday to Friday. Mine were brilliant for emotional support, answering questions and chasing appointments and test results.

  • I would ask about the tests they are going to do, which is generally ultrasound and hysteroscopy/biopsy. Most women now have some form of pain relief for hysteroscopy and I think it's better to be prepared. I don't want to scare you, but this procedure can be painful for many women and but you can opt to have it under general anasethetic.

  • I've opted for general anaesthetic. I am a total wuss.

  • Nope, for anyone post menopause it’s a wise decision. I decided to try but the consultant stopped mine as I was in too much pain and he didn’t want me to experience trauma or faint.  I then had one under GA a few weeks later and it was a breeze.

  • I had a GA for the hysteroscopy.
