Hi to anyone feeling anxious about their surgery. I just wanted to put your mind at rest with the following:
I had a full hysterectomy plus pelvic nodes removed at Singleton hospital 11 days ago following a diagnosis of Grade 3C endometrial cancer and it wasn’t half as bad as I expected it to be and the medical staff, food, bed, ward were absolutely fab. I was back home again within 24 hours. The only painkillers needed when home were paracetamol and the discomfort isn’t too bad at all considering this was a major op. I try resting when I need to and have some family help but preparation is key, so make sure you stock up with ready meals in your freezer etc
as I’m so glad that I did. I have some nerve damage to my left thigh (numb with intermittent pins and needles) but hopefully that will improve in time. I have to self inject for 14 days to avoid DVT but the thought is worse than the actual doing, which takes seconds. Anyway, try not to worry and I hope the above helps
Hi Lemonpip
I hope you are steadily improving as each day passes
I am due to have my op next tuesday 20th and your words have been a great help, thank you
I think it is fear of the unknown and putting yourself so completely in others hands that I am more afraid of but to see so many positive stories for the op I will hopefully be so much calmer on the day
Best
Karen
Best advice I had was from anethetist when I had pre op, who said to me, we take away control from you, we put you in backless gowns, make you wear horrible stockings, but put your trust in us, we know what we’re doing. I couldn’t believe how calm I was, one minute talking about favourite holiday, and next hearing my name as I was waking up,
good luck for next week
Hi there
So pleased to hear your op went well. I had mine on 6th May due to grade 3 cancer and I share your experience. I have nerve damage which I'm told will improve over time and have only had to take paracetamol for any discomfort, which came mostly from the ill fitting compression socks. (wrong size given) I hope you continue to make good progress.. Have you had any discussions about next steps regarding the cancer?
Best wishes
Joolsy
Hi
I've only been told its Grade 3 and wont know anything else until the results are in on what was removed.. Cervix, uterus, tubes and ovaries..
I'm not certain obviously but am expecting the need for further treatment due to the high grade but am trying not to pre-empt anything.
