Hello everyone.
I've come here as I am freaking out a little.
A little background... I am 55 years old and have not had a period in over 3 years. I'm assuming I am post menopausal, and was lucky enough to sail through menopause (mush like my mum did) with practically no symptoms.
On Friday night I began to bleed, very much like a period only lighter. On Sunday it stopped, but this morning had returned.
I called my GP surgery and was lucky enough to get a face-to-face appointment this morning.
She has put me on a rapid referral pathway to see the gynae team at the hospital to carry out investigations for possible endometrial cancer and I am in bits!
I know it's very early, and I know that there's a good chance that it WON'T be cancer, but now I just can't get it out of my head.
I have no idea what's going to happen next and very few people I can speak to about all this.
Sorry, I know so many people have it far worse than me, TBH I just need somewhere I can offload.
Hi Ruth,
Just wanted to say hello and say you’re definitely not alone on this journey. I’ve had very irregular periods until they stopped in 2020, I started HRT in July last year & since have bled on & off since December. Most frequently over the last few months where I have been having “periods” every month.
after speaking with Doc I had an internal examination & referred to ultrasound to measure endometrium (7mm) now waiting on an urgent appointment for biopsy on 20th May.
I can understand how you feel, I too have no-one to talk it through with so find the forum helpful to know that I’m not alone, sending positive thoughts x

That is normal if you have any bleeding. When I was referred- I had an appointment with the specialist who did an examination and as my womb lining was quite thick he did a biopsy and said he would write to me within 6 weeks - after 3 I had a letter for a follow-up appointment where I was told I had womb cancer and needed a hysterectomy. Please don't worry if there is anything they will be on it straight away and if there isn't they will tell you what is happening. It is,a very scary time but honestly the nhs is brilliant and you will receive lots of help and advise either way.
Thanks for replying. I know I'm being a bit sappy as I haven't even been seen yet I'm just scared.
Most people feel the same. You will have investigations, such as biopsy/hysteroscopy and an ultrasound and MRI or CT. Take each stage a day at a time and try not to worry about what might be. If it's cancer, this type is treatable and remember to ask questions! I now take paper and pen, ask questions and make notes when I attend appointments, just to remind me of what has been said. Good luck.
Hi Ruth
Just wanted to say hi and let you know that how you are feeling is perfectly normal
When I had my bleed back in January 5 years post menopause and was put on the fast track for investigation my anxiety went into overdrive and I took to Google and scared myself silly, so try stay off the internet and stick to sites like this where you will get honest advice from ladies that have been in your shoes
I am now days away from surgery and can honestly say the process is slick but can be frustrating at times (time spent waiting for results) but every health professional I have seen so far have been superb they understand your fears and do their very best to put you at ease
Whatever the outcome of your investigations, you will get the best care possible
Karen
Thank you to everyone who has taken the time out to respond to me.
I appreciate it so much.
Hi
Totally agree with all the ladies replies.
Never easy to wait, and hard not to worry.
Sounds like your team are doing everything they can.
If you forget to ask questions in meetings, like I often did! There will be numbers you can contact NHS staff on.
Sending positivity to you
