Hi,
had a radical hysterectomy due to low grade stage 1 endometrial cancer.
Don't know if I had a catheter or packing in my vagina because neither were there when I came round in the recovery room.
All went well. May need a bit of radiotherapy but waiting for results of histology.
It was done keyhole so just 3 incisions.
I didn't want to wake up.
Managed to eat a little and did my pee to escape.
Little discomfort and it felt like my bladder was asleep.
Got 28 days of blood thinning injections and to wear the decompression stockings until more active.
Cannot wait for a shower tomorrow .
Only pain I have is from the keyhole incisions when I move. Just nagging pain. Actual inside pain, the odd twinge and hardly any bleeds .
Was sent home with Luxalose to help with the bowels and strong painkiller Oramorph.
Got to drink plenty, which I do anyway.
I have an amazing partner who is doing everything for me.
It wasn't as bad as I thought. Especially with all the support and information from the forums here.
Good luck to everyone x
Well done! FWIW I was fine on just paracetamol post op, and didn’t need any at all once I was home. I just took 2 at night for the first two nights “in case” but then stopped after that. Had some twinges that felt like pulled muscles but they didn’t really bother me. I also didn’t take any laxatives, just kept my diet light (no starchy carbs) with protein and fruit till I’d had a poo (day 4). FWIW Oramorph can constipate. I said no to it at the hospital as didn’t want to feel out of it. Have a gentle walk outside if you feel up to it - it will help restore your circulation, clear your lungs and help get your bowels into gear. I did 5 mins twice a day for the first three days (including the afternoon I came home from hospital!) and slowly increased from there. Listen to your body - but that includes doing gentle things yourself when you feel like it. It can be good having someone to help - as long as it doesn’t cause you to not move out of bed/off the sofa all day long!
Yeah they gave me paracetamol pre op. Just taken some now. Hoping not to use the oramorph. Using the laxative as I'm on iron tablet and due to my other medication for diabetes I tend to need help.
Making sure when I get up I stand tall to help.
Feeling a little lethargic today but I do have fibromyalgia so this is normal for me.
Thanks for your input. Much appreciated
I also have fibromyalgia. It affects most things, particularly pain issues. Well done for getting through it and good wishes on a speedy recovery.
I slept really well. No pain relief needed.
Had my first bowel movement. We fine. The laxative they sent me home with was a big help.
Was worried with straining but was fine no pain.
Can't wait for my first shower tonight. A wash isn't the same.
Taking my 4 dressings off tonight.
Still minimum bleeding.
I seem to have been very lucky as I haven't had much pain or problems after my surgery, so far.
I can honestly say, it was a lot easier than I thought.
The staff whe looked after me and did the surgery where fantastic.
And informed me every step of the way.
That's great news and encouraging for others who may have to take this road.
Do you have to inject blood-thinners though?
