Recently diagnosed with stage 1 and grade 3 womb cancer. Last week had everything removed including a few lymph nodes via keyhole surgery. On day 7 now, listening to my body and taking it easy, increasing my steps each day and wondering when I fit back in my jeans ? Belly still swollen how long will it take to go down?
I am awaiting results as radiation is required as grade 3. Have a sick note for 4 weeks, my request as only entitlement is statutory sick pay £118 per week, then I will see how I am? I have a desk job and can work from home. Consultant wanted to sign off 8 weeks, yes it would be great if my employer paid a decent sickness pay but not the case.
Any tips on getting back on the horse?
I have a lot of family issues at the moment, also my mum has dementia and my sister has cancer as well. Need to get well to help.
Many Thanks
Hi Birdie5, if you’re having financial issues as a result of your diagnosis, Macmillan may be able to help as they have some funding. You can check by calling the help line. FWIW I’d say 6 weeks minimum before going back to work, 8 weeks preferable.
I would take care of yourself first and foremost otherwise you will have nothing to give others. It's sad that your mum has dementia and your sister has cancer but you need to cosset yourself right now.
Maybe enlist help from others to assist with your family members whilst you are recovering? Take it slowly, a step at a time and pace yourself. I find that reaching out sometimes can help. Maybe try getting support from carers' support? They have various means to listen and can often suggest forms of support. Best wishes.
Hi there, yes I had a swollen tummy for quite a while and I recall sizing up on skirts and always those with elasticated waists ( sounds rather unfashionable but have found White Company skirts great and I think Seasalt do elasticated linen skirts etc ).
I am 4 months on from hysterectomy and my lower waist area still a tiny bit tender with tight waist bands so only tend to wear jeans for a couple of hours as denim quite unforgiving .
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
