Hi
Was wondering about people's experience after pelvic radiotherapy and brachy. I'm 2 weeks post pelvic RT and 1 week post brachy and just had some rectal bleeding going to the loo. I know this is a side effect but still feels scary. Anyone else have any experience of this please? X
Hi AL75
I would suggest giving the radiotherapists/CNS a call and explain that you have had an episode of rectal bleeding. They would likely be able to reassure you and probably get you to monitor it. It can be a side effect in some people but it is a side effect that they would want to know about.
My side effects were mainly upset tummy and nausea.
I expect you have been given a follow up appointment at some point next month- but this is something that I would mention before then.

I hope that you are otherwise recovering ok from your treatment.

I had a bit of rectal bleeding and blood in urine too after brachytherapy therapy. It only lasted about 24 hours, it wasn’t heavy, but I rang the helpline and they asked me to monitor it and come back to them if it lasted any longer. They explained it could happen. Luckily it didn’t last long and other than diarrhoea everything settled down. Big of a shock though when it happened. My radiotherapy finished on 26th March and I’ve had no problems from it since then.
