Hi
I - had a hysterectomy on 17/3 and they thought would be good outcome and would write and give me the results- assuming they would be fine. This week I had a an appointment come through for 2/5 and with no understanding of why or if I now have cancer - I can only assume I do as otherwise they would have just written.
I phoned to try and bring appointment forward - I am going insane !
they said they could see I have an appointment for a pelvic mass - but had the wrong number - the next person would only say it was a routine follow up after surgery!
I am so scared and I don’t know what to do- waiting another 10 days is killing me !
can anyone give advice?
Hi Janemay, did you have any diagnostic tests before your hysterectomy, eg hysteroscopy, MRI/CT? Did you have your hysterectomy because of cancer cells having been found? As far as I am aware, most or all of us here who have had hysterectomies have had an in person follow up appointment afterwards, whether or not we were being offered adjuvant treatment.
Hi Janemay
Welcome to the Womb group.
I am sorry to hear that you have had surgery and I hope that you are recovering ok from it.
Did you have a diagnosis of cancer and that was the reason for the hysterectomy?
It is hard to know on the information you have said what the appointment is for. It could be a simple follow up appointment to check on your recovery from surgery. It could be to discuss your post op pathology. (After surgery anything removed is routinely checked)
If you look at one of the letters from the hospital there may be an email address for your consultants secretary. I would be inclined to email them and ask for someone to call you back to discuss what the appointment is for.
The other thing I would suggest doing is to contact your GP in the morning. With me, every time anything happened with the hospital my GP was electronically sent a report. It may well be that the GP can access the report and if necessary contact the hospital on your behalf.

Thank you Jane
good advice I will contact GP and se if I can get hold of the Consultant secretary
I had hyperplasia and so pre cancerous indications which led to a full hysterectomy
they were pretty positive that there would be no further issues!
but that would write to me with the hystology results. But no letter and an appointment scares me!
I will follow up tomorrow
thanks
Hi Janemay
There are different types of hyperplasia and some are more likely to cause issues and that would likely be why they did the hysterectomy- to prevent problems happening in the future.
After surgery, anything removed would go to pathology for double checking and hopefully that will show that the provisional diagnosis was correct.
After any surgery it is normal to have some sort of follow up. Sometimes this can be face to face, sometimes by phone call and sometimes by letter. Some consultants have their preferences for follow ups and sometimes- especially after surgery they may want to physically check you and make sure you are fully recovered.
The bit where they said about the pelvic mass- I am not sure about- hyperplasia is a thickened lining- I am not sure if they would describe it as a mass- if it was particularly thick in an area- however if you had full tests and were diagnosed with hyperplasia then I would feel this is a normal follow up.
However give you doctor a call tomorrow- there may be other things on the report that will clarify it and provide reassurance.
