I had a 2cm uterine polyp removed mid-March and had a call early April to say they’d found grade 1 cancer cells. The nurse said I’d be waiting one to two weeks for an MRI to see if it had spread then two weeks to speak to the surgeon. That would take me to the end of April. Two weeks after that we are due to go to Disneyworld for a fortnight. The nurse said they would probably recommend I don’t go.
How long do you think I might have to wait for a hysterectomy at Liverpool Women’s? Everything else has dragged… my urgent referral to the first hysteroscopy was over a month and then I needed a second hysteroscopy to remove the polyp. I had to chase that and it was six weeks after the first. I’d hate to cancel the holiday but then not have the surgery until after we’d have come back. On the other hand I’ve read online that survival chances are better if the hysterectomy takes place within six weeks of diagnosis.
The nurse who rang me wasn’t able to give me a timescale for the surgery. I’d be grateful to hear from anyone about the waiting time between the meeting with surgeon post-MRI and surgery. Thanks.
Hi I’m in Nottingham but I was diagnosed around the 7th Jan and had my surgery on the 12th Feb. Imagine every Trust is different. They will have MDT meetings and priority meetings to discuss whose surgery is most urgent. I had to cancel a trip to New York as it fell just after my diagnosis. They did say I could still go but it would delay my MRI and chest x. Ray so we decided to cancel. Hope this helps a bit.
Thank you, and I’m sorry you had to cancel your trip. I hope your surgery went well and you’re recovering.
I’m just struggling with the uncertainty. If I knew my surgery would be that quick I could deal with it better, but I guess I’ll have to deal with the not knowing for now.
The waiting is the worse I think. Looking back we could have gone as nothing happened in that week, but then we both said would we have enjoyed it with this hanging over us. We have rebooked for 4 weeks time and I will be 13 weeks post op by then. I am doing good and no further treatment needed.
We have insurance through my husband’s bank so hopefully we could pay extra so I’m covered. If it’s early stage and grade 1 and hasn’t spread I’m unlikely to need treatment for anything related while we’re away, and if it’s more serious then we won’t be going.
Hi 1234Eva
From first symptom of a heavy bleed until hysterectomy was 4 weeks.
From first seeing the consultant to surgery was very quick. I saw him on the Friday lunchtime, I had the preop things done on Friday pm and surgery was on the Monday am. For me once they had all the test results, it was very quick.

I was diagnosed November 2021 with predicted grade 1 stage 1a and had my hysterectomy in the January. I can’t speak for Liverpool Women’s, but at Southampton they tend to prioritise the higher predicted grades and stages over the typically slow growing low grade 1’s. Try to stop googling honestly as it won’t help. Have you got a date for your staging MRI yet? If it was me I’d probably err on the side of going on the holiday as, with the NHS as it is, I can’t help thinking the op date would very possibly be after you come back anyway.
