BOTs in results & holiday question

I have been fortunate to have had my post op results yesterday saying no further treatment. The consultant talked about borderline ovarian tumours however so I’m keen to know if anyone else had these. Is this a separate cancer/issue to endometrial ?
are there any questions anyone would recommend I ask my CNS about these? I had a BSO alongside hysterectomy,

Also, I know there’s a travel insurance forum but thought I’d ask for any advice or recommendations following a Stage 1A/Grade 1 confirmation. I’m more concerned for being insured post surgery as I’m 6 wks post op and off to Cyprus on Sunday.

wishing you all well xx

  • Hi

so I’m 8 weeks post hysterectomy and no further treatment needed. I got travel insurance last week and it was an annual one. I used Stay Sure, they were not cheap but fully covered

  • Hi I use Avanti. Had to have radiotherapy so waited till finished. Avanti paid out on cancelled holiday around surgery and still took me back! Questions revolved around whether cancer continues womb and whether treatment finished. It did cost more but had a skin cancer and broken ankle at the same time to add to list! The increase wasn’t as bad as I expected though.

  • Hi LadyH73.

well done on getting the news re no further treatment, and hope you have a great holiday.

When I got my results they didn’t say too much re the actual results, it was more confirming what they expected pre op, I.e, large tumour in womb with some spread to one of the ovaries. The appt was more to talk about the follow up treatment. I then about a month later got a letter which was to record the appt. At the top of that letter, it gave me more information about my diagnosis, than what was discussed in meeting. It’s possible you might get further info via a letter following your appt. Saying that I think I would ask your CNS to explain more along the lines you have said.

  • Hi LadyH73

I have used Insurewith a couple of times and their premiums are very reasonable.

  • Hi LadyH73, the vast majority of us had our ovaries removed too, that’s a normal thing for a hysterectomy for endometrial cancer. My histology found pre cancerous “stics” in my fallopian tubes that would have progressed to high grade ovarian cancer if left so I was particularly glad it was all taken. As far as I can gather from Macmillan’s ovarian cancer page borderline ovarian tumours are abnormal cells that are not cancer, and are usually treated with surgery, which you’ve already had!

Has your consultant approved you to fly?

  • Being 6 weeks post op I haven’t sought approval really.

  • Hi, my consultant told me that if it was laprascopic you could fly after 24 hours but the CNS said 8 weeks. You could just check.
be warned some insurance won’t even contemplate covering you.

ours was expensive s we are going to the USA which doubles it lol plus my husband has conditions that need covering.

  • Hi LadyH73

That's great news, that you do not need to have any further treatment.

Borderline ovarian tumours is separate to the endometrial cancer. BOTS are benign but they have the potential, in some ladies, to develop into cancer in the future. Because they were removed during your surgery you should not have any issues regarding them. So I would personally feel reassured- you had the earliest stage and lowest grade of endometrial cancer- surgery has removed it and the BOTS were removed before any potential chance of them causing problems.

I don't know about the travel insurance- although it may help to post in the Travel Insurance group- or just have a look to see what people have used- however I would recommend checking that you are ok to fly after the surgery? Am sure you would have already asked- but just mentioning it.

Hope you have a great holiday after the last few months.

    Jane
