Hello all,
I have to be at hospital for 12 today for my hysterectomy, although been told I am second on the list so likely to have to wait a few hours before I go down.
Very anxious, never had an operation, never been under GA. It didn't help that at the Drs the other day the HCA told me a horror story about hers last year but I have read so many positive stories here and I just wanted to say thank you for all the support and advice.
Yes Runner 54,
The slip on shoes are a must, I came home in a summer all in one slip over the head stretchy jersey dress, I didn’t care what I looked like with the green stockings either. I’d just had major surgery and I felt like a warrior!
Another recommendation I took from others is to keep the bowels moving, there’s nothing worse than having to ‘push’ after an Op like this feeling terrified your inners will pop out (doubt they would though). I took soft liquorice sweets in with me and invested in lots of the PRUNE baby puree pouches, found the Tesco & Aldi ones the best and cheapest (45p the price of a piece of fruit). This worked wonders for me and no trouble toileting either.
I also found talking on here gave me great comfort, listening to others that have been through the same as me and picking up on any tips that made my journey easier.
Thanks Waidh, that's reassuring. Yes definitely hate feeling out of control but I will put my trust in them.
That's a really good tip about the bowels, thanks.
Thank you so much H, I will do. I love talking about holidays
Hi StarsAndSky
Good luck for today.
I am sure you will be very well looked after.

Hi StarsandSky, I had my laparoscopic hysterectomy 3 years ago in January. In on the Saturday morning 7.30am, didn’t walk down to theatre till just after half 11, but the morning flew by as there were visits and checks from nursing staff, my consultant/surgeon, the anaesthetist, fitting of Norah Batty stockings, and free WiFi, so I even posted on here that day, as well as doing my word games and catching up on social media. I was under very quickly, and before I knew it I was in the recovery ward and then having my bed pushed to the ward by a very hunky porter! Didn’t really fancy a meal so my snacks came in very handy! I had some discomfort from the catheter but as soon as that was out 6am the next day, I was up and about, and didn’t need any pain relief at all. Went home lunchtime Sunday - my husband had brought a cushion to go under the seat belt but I had no pain and didn’t need it. Went for a gentle 5 min walk round the block soon after I’d got home. You will rock it and you will be fine.
Thank you MarmiteFan59, I did read this before I went in, it was very reassuring and I'm pleased all went well for you. My op went well, it remained keyhole. They were able to preserve my ovaries as hoped. I didn't go to theatre until around 5pm in the end, so ended up staying in. I definitely had discomfort from catheter, whoch was removed around 2am. I'm still a bit sore there, little bit of pain when weeing. I've been in a fair amount of pain, been on oramorph and they've given me some to take home too. I did use the pillow under seatbelt. Been doing little bit of walking around house and garden since I got home yesterday and planning on going for 1 or 2 five minute walks around the block today.
Thanks Clem16, it really is! So many helpful tips and great support.
