I can't keep up with the rate things change! Had a phonecall today and after reviewing my MRI results (not that it appears to have spread or anything), the team have said they do not see the point in putting me through the hysteroscopy, removal of womb lining, removal of polyp and coil insertion on 17th March to then do the hysterectomy in a couple of months time once I've lost some weight so they want to just go straight ahead with the surgery, which has been provisionally booked in for the 25th March . That makes absolute sense, the hysteroscopy isn't going to change the outcome of the treatment, but I'm in shock and very emotional. Everything has just happened so quickly (which I'm grateful for, but it's just a whirlwind and a rollercoaster at the same time).
Hi StarsandSky
I can understand that it must feel like a rollercoaster of emotions but it does seem to be the best option. As you say the hysteroscopy isn't going to change the outcome. If you are going to have the hysterectomy anyway it seems better to go straight to it.
Just think, in two weeks time it will have been done and you will hopefully be back home to recover. In a months time you should be feeling loads better.
It also gives you just enough time to get everything ready before you go in. I remember doing a big tidy up, sorting shopping to be delivered and I also set up some bits and pieces down stairs ready. I also bought a few bits and pieces for when I was in hospital and a few comfy clothes for when I got home. I found lose comfy clothes best and nothing tight around waist. I also bought one of those v shaped cushions that I found helped me sit and sleep more comfortably.
I wish you well for the 25th and in the meantime we are here if you need anything.
Jane
Hi …that’s quite advanced notice compared to me! I had appointment for results on a Friday morning, they told me they had a cancellation on the Monday, and had already sorted out pre assessment for that afternoon.
it does make absolute sense for you to go straight to hysterectomy, and hopefully when this news has settled in, you can prepare yourself and hopefully will be less in shock. Wishing you well at this whirlwind time
Thanks for the support and helpful advice Jane, I will get one of those pillows. Yes definitely going to do a big tidy up and make sure things I might need are easily accessible. I'm lucky as my partner is taking the first couple of weeks off work which will help mentally and physically.
Oh my goodness Waidh, that is crazy!! I'll be grateful for the 'advanced notice' I hope you are doing well.
Thank you, feeling very productive today, getting lots of things sorted out and keeping the positives in the forefront of my mind as much as I can.
Yes it was crazy, they then followed it up with my chemoradiotherapy a week earlier than expected, they said either first or second week of Feb, and it ended up last week of Jan, with confirmation 36 hours before it started. Then! Had appt with oncologist on Tuesday this week to do consents for the further chemo and he said I could start it this week, and mentioned Weds! Given I only finished the radiotherapy last week, we agreed I could start the further chemo in 2 weeks time! Can’t fault them for their enthusiasm to get me sorted, but I need a little break.
Glad you are feeling a little more settled today, and getting things sorted. Hope you can relax over the weekend
Oh my goodness, I really feel for you. That is so much in a short space of time, plus with things happening so fast/quicker than expected it doesn't give you any head space. Yeah absolutely, amazing that you are getting all the treatment you need but understandable you need a break! Sending you best wishes for the further treatment and hope you are able to take a little bit of time for yourself between now and then. Thank you, we are out with friends tomorrow which I think will do me some good.
I guess it all depends on how much weight you need to lose and other factors but I wouldn't be rushed. If you are comfortable with it all, fine but you need to step back for a moment and decide for yourself what you really feel most happy with. If it's not spread you do probably have a small window of time in which to consider it all - and I am sure your team who have your best interests at heart would understand if you needed a bit more time to make up your mind.
I wish you well but remember it's your body!
I am not surprised you need a break! You've been through a lot and need to recover surely before proceeding with the next stage of treatment. I know it's important but you know your own body and what it can take - and a few weeks probably wouldn't make that much difference. We all need some personal space in which to rest and recover to gain strength for the next steps, which is crucial to overall recovery I would have thought. Good wishes for the next stage of your journey.
