Hi all

I saw my oncologist on Monday and it has been decided that I will continue after the number 4 chemo cycle and have 6 cycles.  The oncologist will call me before number 6 to check I'm ok and I can change my mind at that point if necessary.

I don't have a problem with the extra treatments apart from having to cancel 2 holidays Sob .  We were due to go to France for a month in our motorhome, we can change the ferry crossing for this and go later, and we were going to take our friends to our home city of Liverpool for a long weekend so we'll probably do this next year instead.

  • Hi Sbird, is that because you are doing OK with the chemo to date? I had my appt with oncologist yesterday to sign the consents for the further chemo. I finished radio with 2 lots of displaying last week. Understand your frustration with cancelling holidays, in the same club.

  • That should have said cisplatin not displaying!

  • Hi Waidh

Yes, because I am tolerating the chemo quite well.  I'm keeping in mind "the more the merrier" Smile

  • Oh well done, both for tolerating it well and keeping your sense of humour. Can I ask what side effects you have had, to give me some hope!

  • I have Serous Endometrial Cancer.  The treatment here seems to be 6 doses of Paclitaxel and Carboplatin as the standard.  We don’t get the newer treatments such as Trastumuzab unless we have a recurrence.  I was surprised to hear that many people stopped at 4 rounds of chemo in the UK.  I had my 6th round of treatment at the end of February and did reasonably well with it.  I was more tired after 6 than with the previous rounds and have some moments of breathlessness after stairs or walking up hills but otherwise I’m fine.  Good luck with the last 2 treatments, hope they have minimal side effects for you.

  • Interesting on my consents form yesterday the had two boxes one saying 4 lots and the other 8, he gave me a heart attack ticked the box for 4 but said 8! Good to know you did reasonably well with it

  • I've lost my hair, some diarrhoea but loperamide helps with that, I had worsening indigestion so my GP gave me omeprazole and I've not had indigestion since, after my first chemo I had a bit of leg/joint pain but walking about sorted that.  I've felt a bit grotty now and again but it's soon settled.

Apart from the above I've been fine Laughing

  • I was told that I would definitely have 4 cycles as a minimum and if I was tolerating it OK then would have 6 cycles.

  • Ah useful to know walking about helped with the leg/joint pain

  • At that point I didn't know if I could take paracetamol or ibuprofen so I checked with the 24hr helpline who said that they are ok to take but of course the pain had passed and it hasn't happened again since.
