Hello,
I had an aspiration biopsy yesterday. I had booked a cancellation with private gynae as NHS referral sent in Jan still hasn’t been triaged.
Basically history is -had scan for back issue which picked up lesion in womb. Then had vaginal ultrasound and was advised I needed hysteroscopy. But treated as non urgent. I have had erratic bleeds for 18 months but GP said perimenopause as I’m 50.
The consultant I saw privately said US scan showed likely polyps but she would do exam and biopsy and then at least whilst waiting for NHS hysteroscopy I would have peace of mind.
When she took cells she said there was yellow pus. I had noticed this discharge a few days earlier. Also she said there is so much tissue in the womb. I heard her say to nurses I want this sent off urgently and she said she would contact NHS, as well as my GP, before exam she said I could send her letter to gynae team to get things moving.
As you can imagine I’m a bit concerned now. The pus thing I only noticed as I finally had a break in bleeds and just had clear discharge which was yellow with pus.
Anyone else have this before diagnosis. I was told I would get results in 7-10 days.
Hello Mazzeo
Welcome to the Womb group.
I am sorry to hear of your bleeding and other symptoms.
You have done the right thing in getting checked out and I hope that your results come back quickly.
I can understand why you are concerned. I did have a similar type of bleeding before my cancer diagnosis but this was put down to perimenopausal changes. I was put on the progesterone only pill and within a few months, that stopped my periods. The symptom that led me to seek help was later on I had a heavy bleed that came out of the blue.
The bleeding led to a biopsy on the 2 week pathway and I was sent for further testing.
Where the doctor said about the tissue in the womb, that may be some thickening or hyperplasia. This can be for different reasons- some can get better on its own, some could in the future increase the risk of cancer and sometimes cancer can be found. Hyperplasia can cause bleeding.
The polyps can sometimes be benign but sometimes cancer can be found and that is why they are often removed. Polyps can cause bleeding.
The discharge can be a symptom of infection but can also be present in some ladies who go on to have a diagnosis. For most ladies the symptom that leads them to seek medical advice is bleeding.
The consultant saying about having it sent off urgently would be normal with these findings as they normally try to exclude the most serious potential causes first.
I hope that you do not have to wait too much longer to find out what is causing your symptoms. In the meantime if there is anything you need, please do ask.
We also have the Support Line available from 8am -8pm daily, if you feel like talking things through would help.
