consultant says if any cells have broke off then its chemo or radiotherapy or both

he explained the risks involved with my operation

but I only just informed my nurse specialist I had TVT tape fitted in 2014 for stress incontinence an she has informed me this may cause problems for my surgery

has anyone had a TVT tape an had a hysterectomy if so did you encounter any problems as im extremely concerned over this now

I honestly feel like every phone call from the hospital is constantly bad news

would love to hear from anyone who has had tvt tape thankyou

  • Hello Tacky38

I am sorry that I missed your post.

Welcome to the Womb group. I am sorry to hear of your diagnosis of womb cancer. I remember what a worrying time it is.

It is good that you do not have to wait too long for your hysterectomy. Mine was in April 2022. I was worried about having the surgery but it was actually pretty straightforward. I had little pain and was home the following day and I recovered quickly.

With endometrial cancer they normally give you a provisional stage and grade before the surgery and then this is confirmed with the post op pathology. Mine came back 3 1/2 weeks post surgery and indicated a need for chemo and radiotherapy.

I have not had experience of the TVT tape and doing a search on here I can not find anything. I can not think however that you would be the only person who has had surgery with one. I can understand why you are concerned but the main thing is the doctor is aware of it and can therefore make a plan to take it into account. It maybe that they have to make slight adjustments during your surgery but they should be able to talk you through these when you have your pre op appointment. If you have a CNS you could possibly pop them an email to express your worries and ask what may happen. There may also be a phone number to call.

You could also give the Support Line a call and talk to one of the nurses about how a TVT may affect surgery.

I know what you mean about the contact from the hospital. I remember it well, lots of appointments and not much good news. It is a tough time. Hopefully once you have some reassurance about the TVT and the surgery is done, things will start to feel a bit easier.

I wish you well for your surgery on the 10th and in the meantime we are here if you need us.

    Jane
